User Experience Designer

Location: Fully Remote

Engagement Type: Contract — 1 year. W2 Only, no subcontracting (no C2C), no visa sponsorship.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

VALERE is seeking a UI/UX Designer for our client. The team is in the middle of a multi-year effort to modernize the technology and operational systems behind a large clinical laboratory business, building modern digital products and workflows that improve the experience for clients and internal users alike. You will work alongside UX researchers, content specialists, and front-end developers to shape interfaces that make complex laboratory and educational workflows feel clear and effortless.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Contribute to all stages of the design process: wireframing layouts, designing mockups at multiple screen sizes, and developing UI documentation for developer hand-off.
• Represent users in the design of interfaces that reflect best practices for different device types and for accessibility.
• Partner with UX researchers to understand audience needs and shape visual approaches through iterative prototype testing.
• Incorporate UX findings and brand identity into design patterns that are both visually strong and genuinely useful.
• Collaborate with content specialists to design effective page layouts using established web components and patterns.
• Improve navigation schemes, interaction patterns, and digital storytelling alongside teammates and stakeholders.
• Build familiarity with a component-based content management system and work closely with content contributors on engaging page layouts.
• Develop and adapt design specifications for front-end developers, accounting for feasibility and performance constraints.
• Communicate persuasively with stakeholders about design decisions and how they serve business objectives.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5+ years producing user interface designs with demonstrated impact.
• Expert-level UI design skills: prototyping, interaction flow diagrams, wireframes, and interface specifications, backed by strong visual design acumen.
• Hands-on experience with UI design software such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
• Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and the basics of front-end web development.
• Experience addressing accessibility for digital products, including optimizing for assistive technologies.
• Content design and UX writing experience, plus a grounding in digital marketing, SEO, and content strategy basics.
• Up-to-date knowledge of modern digital and interaction design principles and trends.
• Strong communication and presentation skills: the ability to clearly articulate complex design problems and the reasoning behind your solutions.
• A portfolio showing deliverables from across the design process for products and websites.
• Experience using and contributing to design systems (preferred).
• Experience with requirements definition and backlog refinement in tools like Azure DevOps or Jira (preferred).
• Experience with AI-assisted design and research tools (preferred).
• Experience in healthcare, laboratory operations, client experience, or higher education (preferred).
