Senior Software & Systems Engineer – Technical Lead
Location: Halifax/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Work arrangement: On-site minimum four days per week
Engagement: Three-month contract with potential for permanent employment
Contract rate: $75 per hour
About Invisipay
Invisipay is developing an autonomous cashier-less retail platform integrating mobile applications, cloud services, edge computing, computer vision, RFID, payments and controlled-entry systems.
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Software & Systems Engineer to lead a small engineering team while contributing directly to the platform’s development, integration, deployment and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Lead a small team of software and AI engineers.
- Establish technical priorities, assign work and monitor delivery.
- Review code and ensure consistent engineering standards.
- Assess and document the end-to-end system architecture.
- Provide hands-on development and systems-integration support.
- Integrate mobile, backend, database, cloud and edge components.
- Manage deployments from GitHub to Google Cloud Platform.
- Develop and troubleshoot APIs, databases and messaging services.
- Configure Linux services, Docker, systemd and MQTT.
- Support PostgreSQL, Cloud SQL and Cloud Run.
- Integrate Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson and network-connected devices.
- Improve application reliability, session management, monitoring and recovery.
- Establish secure CI/CD, secrets management, logging and alerting.
- Diagnose issues across software, cloud, network and hardware boundaries.
- Maintain clear technical and operational documentation.
- Provide progress updates, identify risks and recommend practical solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of professional software and systems engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading a small technical team.
- Strong backend development and systems-integration experience.
- Advanced knowledge of APIs, databases and messaging protocols.
- Strong experience with GCP or AWS.
- Experience with Linux, Docker and production deployments.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and cloud-hosted databases.
- Knowledge of MQTT, networking, device communication and edge systems.
- Experience with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines and secrets management.
- Ability to review code and guide developers through complex technical problems.
- Ability to independently assess unfamiliar systems and take ownership of delivery.
- Strong communication, documentation and technical leadership skills.
Experience with Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, IoT systems, payment integrations or computer-vision environments is considered an asset.
This is a hands-on leadership position. The successful candidate must be comfortable writing and reviewing code, solving integration problems and guiding a small team toward reliable delivery.
Applicants must be available to work on-site in the Halifax/Dartmouth area at least four days per week.
