Senior Django Developer — Remote, U.S. Based

We are looking for a Senior Django Developer to join our growing engineering team. This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer with strong expertise in Python, Django, Django REST Framework, relational databases, and scalable application architecture.

You will take ownership of backend systems, contribute to architectural and technical decisions, mentor other engineers, and work directly with U.S.-based clients while collaborating closely with our engineering team in Hong Kong. We are looking for someone who is technically strong, detail-oriented, comfortable solving complex engineering problems, and able to balance software quality, performance, maintainability, security, and business requirements.

This is a remote position for candidates currently located in the United States.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Python and Django.
• Build secure, scalable, reusable services, APIs, and application components.
• Design, implement, document, and maintain REST APIs using Django REST Framework.
• Write clean, efficient, testable, and maintainable Python code.
• Design data models and optimize database access using the Django ORM.
• Work with relational databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar systems.
• Diagnose and resolve application, API, database, reliability, and performance issues.
• Contribute to system architecture and make sound technical design decisions.
• Review code and help establish engineering standards, best practices, and documentation.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, designers, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and API tests to support quality and reliability.
• Troubleshoot applications across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
• Improve application performance, scalability, observability, security, and reliability.
• Contribute to CI/CD workflows, deployment processes, and engineering documentation.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required.
• Currently located in the United States and authorized to work in the United States.

• Strong professional experience with Python and Django in production environments.
• Strong experience building and maintaining production REST APIs with Django REST Framework.
• Strong understanding of REST API design, HTTP, authentication, authorization, and secure API-development practices.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, and database design.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or another relational database system.
• Strong understanding of the Django ORM, migrations, database query analysis, and query optimization.
• Experience designing, operating, and maintaining scalable backend systems.
• Experience with Git and collaborative software-development workflows, including pull requests and code reviews.
• Experience writing unit, integration, and API tests.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, design patterns, and maintainable architecture.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve complex application, database, and performance issues.
• Ability to independently own features from technical design through production deployment.
• Experience reviewing code and providing clear, constructive technical feedback.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical-thinking, and communication skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Comfortable collaborating directly with clients and distributed engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute to technical decision-making.

Nice to Have

• Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or other Python web frameworks.
• Experience with Celery and asynchronous or background-task processing.
• Familiarity with Redis or other caching and messaging technologies.
• Experience designing or operating microservices and distributed systems.
• Experience with Docker and containerized application development.
• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Experience deploying applications to AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with application monitoring, structured logging, tracing, and observability tools.
• Experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Experience with WebSockets, Django Channels, or real-time application development.
• Strong understanding of application security and secure API design.
• Experience improving database and application performance at scale.
• Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, React Native, or other frontend and mobile technologies.
• Experience integrating AI/LLM APIs or building AI-powered applications.
• Experience leading technical initiatives, driving architecture decisions, or mentoring software engineers.
