POSITION DESCRIPTION
Bright Silicon Technologies, located in Pleasanton, Ca, is seeking an early career Software Engineer who is passionate about moving new technology to production. We are looking for an engineer to bridge the gap between users and our hardware, refine networking and controls software stacks, and who has the ability to work with a cross-functional team to design, build, and test a precision beam steering device. We are a small team pioneering the state-of-the-art in solid-state optical beam-control, looking for innovators and hard workers. If you’re a talented “take on anything” engineer and ready to have a leading role in the future of an exciting technology and valuable company, come join us.
Employment Type: Full-Time Salaried
Primary Location: USA-CA-Pleasanton
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Algorithm Design & Simulation: Develop, model, and simulate advanced DSP algorithms and feedback control loops using tools like MATLAB, Python, or C++
• Controls Integration: Apply controls theory principles (e.g., state-space representations, transfer functions, digital filtering, PID tuning, stability analysis via Bode/Nyquist plots) to continuous and discrete-time signal processing challenges
• System Optimization: Optimize algorithms for constrained environments, focusing on latency minimization, memory footprint reduction, and execution speed
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with hardware, firmware, and application software teams to define and integrate DSP pipelines into our core product architecture
• Testing & Validation: Conduct rigorous code reviews, unit testing, and hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testing to validate performance against mathematical models
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience prototyping and modeling discrete or continuous control systems using Python or MATLAB
• Familiarity with linear algebra (Vectors, Matrices, etc.)
• Direct experience translating system designs from high-level mathematical languages into performance-focused C++ code
• Strong system-level programming and process automation skills utilizing C++, Python, and MATLAB
• Hands-on experience developing multithreaded applications and high-performance communication protocols
• Excellent communication skills with experience working with a cross-functional, distributed team
• A self-starter mindset with the ability to take ownership of projects and independently implement, test, and improve designs
• System-oriented, with the ability and desire to dive deep into the smallest detail
• This position will work on Government sensitive information (CUI and ITAR) requiring U.S. Person status (citizen, lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or a protected individual)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
An ideal candidate would have familiarity with:
• Experience deploying algorithms on embedded microcontrollers, DSP chips, or FPGAs
• Working closely with embedded environments and interfacing directly with physical hardware or laboratory equipment over standard serial or industrial interfaces
