Position Title: Senior Test Engineer

Department: Test Engineering

Reports to: VP & General Manager

Wage Range: $90,000-$110,000

Job Summary:

The Senior Test Engineer is a hands-on technical position responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining test systems while providing day-to-day direction to Test Technicians and Test Operators. This role is accountable for test performance, team development, Design for Testability (DFT), first-pass yield, troubleshooting effectiveness, and test throughput.

The Senior Test Engineer works cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Engineering, Program Management, Sales, and customers to ensure test operations support product quality, customer requirements, and business objectives.

Principal Accountabilities:

Test Operations & Team Development

  • Provide day-to-day direction, prioritization, and technical support to Test Technicians and Test Operators.

  • Develop team capabilities through training, coaching, cross-training, and technical mentoring.

  • Drive accountability for test performance, adherence to procedures, and production priorities.

  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex test and troubleshooting issues.

Test Development & DFT

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain functional, boundary scan, flying probe, automated, and manual test systems.

  • Lead Design for Testability (DFT) reviews and recommend improvements to test access, coverage, diagnostics, and product design.

  • Develop scalable test solutions supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and ongoing production.

  • Ensure test systems and processes are properly documented, validated, and maintained.

  • Support the introduction and deployment of new test technologies and capabilities.

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor and improve first-pass yield, test coverage, cycle time, failure trends, and throughput.

  • Analyze test data to identify recurring failures, false failures, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.

  • Drive corrective actions that reduce test-related defects, escapes, and diagnostic time.

  • Support Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement activities.

Cross-Functional & Customer Support

  • Partner with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Program Management to resolve test-related issues and production constraints.

  • Support NPI activities including DFT, test strategy, equipment readiness, and production transition.

  • Work directly with customers and engineering teams on test requirements, technical issues, and DFT opportunities.

  • Support customer visits, technical reviews, audits, and cross-site test standardization.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of test engineering or related electronics manufacturing experience. EMS experience preferred.

Experience providing technical direction, coaching, or supervision to technicians and/or operators.

Experience with DFT, test development, troubleshooting, and production test strategy.

Experience with LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++, Python, or similar test development tools.

Strong knowledge of electronic assemblies, schematics, and electronic troubleshooting equipment.

Understanding of IPC, ISO 13485, AS9100, and applicable customer requirements.

Ability to drive accountability and performance excellence across test operations.

Demonstrated ability to improve test coverage, first-pass yield, throughput, and operational performance.

Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

Additional Requirements:

Travel up to 10-15% to support customer interaction, test equipment setup, or multi-site deployment. Flexibility to support off-shift or weekend activities as needed during critical production windows.
