Senior Mechanical Engineer
About the Role
Electromech is seeking a skilled, hands-on Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for motor products and related electromechanical systems. This position provides cradle-to-grave ownership across modeling, stress analysis, material and finish selection, tolerance development, reliability work, qualification support, and sustaining engineering.
This role is well suited for an engineer with directly relevant product experience who is comfortable working in a high-reliability environment and supporting both new development and sustaining efforts. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical design fundamentals, experience with rotating or electromechanical products, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, test, and customer teams.
What You Will Do
- Model and detail mechanical components and assemblies for motors, actuators, geartrains, housings, shafts, interfaces, and related electromechanical hardware
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, tolerance schemes, specifications, BOMs, and drawing packages
- Perform material selection, finish selection, structural stress analysis, tolerance stack-up analysis, and component selection for reliable, manufacturable designs
- Support design of motor mechanical systems with emphasis on durability, manufacturability, assembly, reliability, and integration
- Contribute to geartrain design, shafting, bearing systems, housings, interfaces, sealing approaches, and associated hardware
- Support lubrication selection, FMEA, MTBF / reliability analyses, and design improvement efforts
- Participate in prototype builds, qualification testing, environmental testing, and root-cause investigations
- Coordinate directly with customers, manufacturing, quality, test, and other engineering teams to resolve technical issues and advance designs
- Support pilot builds, production transition, sustaining engineering, and product improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate motors, sensors, feedback devices, drives, and packaging requirements into complete electromechanical assemblies
- Help develop robust, high-reliability solutions for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5–7 years of current electromechanical actuator or similar high-reliability product design experience
- Strong background in geartrain design, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability
- Experience supporting products from concept through release and sustaining engineering
- Strong hands-on experience with prototype hardware, troubleshooting, and cross-functional product development
- Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
- Willingness to support both new development and sustaining work
- U.S. Person required to meet export-control compliance
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of DO-160 / MIL-STD-810 methods
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Nastran, Mathcad, Microsoft Office, Synergis Adept
- Familiarity with Ansys and related structural, thermal, or multiphysics analysis tools
- Experience with electric motors, actuators, rotating equipment, aerospace hardware, or similar electromechanical products
- Experience with finish requirements, environmental considerations, reliability analysis, and qualification testing
- Experience working in high-reliability aerospace, defense, or industrial environments
Work Environment
- Location: Wichita, KS
- Business focus: Motors & Actuators
- High-reliability engineering environment
- Regular work in both office and engineering lab settings
- Hands-on work involving prototype hardware, design evaluation, troubleshooting, and test support
