Year of Professional Structural Design Experience: 6+

Educational and Professional Credentials: P.E. with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited 4-year college focusing on structural engineering; M.S. Preferred. Green Building Certification required.

Description and Responsibilities:

The Senior Project Engineer works on multiple projects and is responsible for completing the bulk of the engineering work together with the Project Engineer and other staff. They oversee and train junior staff, work efficiently and proactively, and they regularly interface with clients.

Duties include the following:

  • Staying abreast of updates in the various building codes, and exhibiting an advanced understanding of code requirements.
  • Reviewing design criteria and calculations provided by assistant project and project engineers.
  • Performing structural analysis and design of a complete project (both gravity and lateral systems of a building) using office software and hand calculations.
  • Assigning tasks, train, and oversee junior engineers and production staff.
  • Setting time management expectations for individual tasks given to junior staff.
  • Proactively identifying and solving problems, providing solutions to Project Manager.
  • Obtaining mastery of multiple design and analysis programs and BIM software.
  • Performing site surveys and structural assessments; measure, photograph and document existing conditions.
  • Comfortably interacting with clients, design team, building officials, contractors, etc.
  • Advising clients and designers on pros and cons of technical decisions in design meetings.
  • Possessing advanced oral and written communication skills and guiding junior staff in their role of communications with clients and others.
  • Utilizing technical writing skills for projects, investigations, and condition assessment reports.
  • Reviewing and editing project specifications.
  • Producing complete project documents using AutoCAD LT and/or Revit.
  • Preparing proposals for scope, schedule, and budget for review with Project Manager.
  • Reviewing and editing NYC DOB forms filled out by junior staff.
  • Reviewing shop drawings, submittals and responding to RFI’s in a timely manner.
  • Participating in site visits during construction to observe the progress of on-going work and preparing written reports with photographs of field observations.
  • Contributing to social media and marketing efforts.

Salary Range: $110 – $130 k
