Role Overview:
As a Senior Software Engineer – Backend, you will play a key role in designing, developing,
and scaling backend services and APIs. You will work closely with product, frontend, data, and
engineering teams to build robust solutions that can support millions of users and evolving
business requirements.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, takes
ownership of systems end-to-end, and wants to contribute to engineering architecture and best
practices.

Key Responsibilities:
● Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs.
● Build reliable and secure systems capable of handling high traffic and large data
volumes.
● Own backend features and services from technical design through development, testing,
deployment, and monitoring.
● Design and optimize RESTful APIs, microservices, databases, and distributed systems.
● Write clean, maintainable, well-tested, and production-ready code.
● Identify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, and security issues.
● Work closely with Product, Frontend, Data, and other engineering teams to deliver
high-quality products.
● Participate in system design and architecture discussions and contribute to long-term
technical decisions.
● Conduct code reviews and help establish engineering standards and best practices.
● Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
● Monitor production systems, troubleshoot incidents, and drive continuous improvements.
● Evaluate new technologies and approaches that can improve system performance,
developer productivity, and reliability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
● 5+ years of production level experience in one of: Java, Scala, Python, C++, or similar
language
● Experience with cloud technologies, e.g. GCP, Docker, Kubernetes
● Proven track record in architecting, developing, deploying, and operating components of
large scale distributed systems
● Strong software engineering maturity: security, correctness, engineering excellence,
operational excellence
● Platform mindset: effective building platforms for other software teams, iterating quickly
to reduce friction to adoption, advocating for platform use
● Cross-functional skills: we have platform customers internal at Databricks as well as
external customers, which requires strong cross-functional skills
