The Drilling Engineer (DE) will support the planning, execution, and post-well evaluation of onshore exploration and appraisal wells in Alaska. Reporting to the Wells Project Manager and working closely with Senior Drilling Engineers, Drilling Superintendents, and multidisciplinary teams, the DE will contribute to the delivery of safe, efficient, and cost-effective well construction operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the development of well designs, drilling programs, and engineering studies.
- Assist with casing design, cementing design, hydraulics calculations, torque and drag analysis, directional drilling planning, BHA selection, bit optimization, and drilling fluids programs.
- Participate in offset well reviews and lessons learned evaluations.
- Assist in preparing Basis of Well Design (BoWD) documentation.
- Support preparation of AFEs, budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Assist with procurement activities, technical bid evaluations, purchase requisitions, and scope-of-work preparation.
- Prepare engineering calculations and technical documentation.
- Support development of risk registers, contingency plans, and Management of Change (MOC) documentation.
- Assist with preparation of Well Control Bridging Documents.
- Support equipment and materials selection and mobilization planning.
- Assist with permitting support activities and regulatory documentation.
- Participate in Drill Well on Paper (DWOP), Pre-Spud Reviews, HAZIDs, risk assessments, peer reviews, and technical assurance processes.
- Support the preparation of operational procedures, work instructions, and plans of action.
- Contribute to KPI development, performance tracking, reporting dashboards, and Power BI analytics.
- Maintain engineering documentation and project databases.
DURING EXECUTION/OPERATIONS:
- Provide day-to-day engineering support to drilling operations.
- Monitor operational performance against plan and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Track drilling KPIs, including:
- NPT
- Flat Time
- Cost Performance
- Drilling Efficiency
- Safety Performance Metrics
- Participate in daily operations meetings and contractor coordination meetings.
- Review Daily Drilling Reports and operational summaries.
- Assist in reviewing daily lookaheads and short-term operational plans.
- Monitor real-time operational data and support troubleshooting efforts.
- Support implementation of Management of Change (MOC) processes when operational deviations occur.
- Coordinate with contractors and service companies to ensure timely delivery of services and equipment.
- Assist with daily cost tracking and invoice verification.
- Support SAP cost certification processes.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation when required.
- Support emergency response activities as directed by project leadership.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and operational documentation.
- Ensure lessons learned and operational best practices are captured throughout the campaign.
CLOSEOUT/POST PHASE:
- Support preparation of End of Well Reports (EOWR).
- Perform post-well technical and cost performance analyses.
- Participate in lessons learned workshops and after-action reviews.
- Support close-out of engineering documentation and project records.
- Assist with contractor close-out activities and final invoice reconciliation.
- Coordinate with logistics personnel to ensure timely demobilization and off-hire of rental equipment.
- Assist with inventory reconciliation and documentation of remaining materials.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline.
- 3-5 years of Oil & Gas industry experience (Drilling engineering experience preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong proficiency in:
- Microsoft Excel

- Proficiency in Power BI and data analysis tools.\
LOCATION/SCHEDULE
- Anchorage, Alaska.
- Primarily office-based position.
- Periodic travel to wellsite, contractor facilities, and project meetings may be required.
Occasional field assignments may be necessary during drilling operations
- Standard 5-day work week during planning phases.
- Additional hours may occasionally be required to support critical project milestones and active drilling operations.
- During drilling operations, the candidate may be expected to provide out-of-hours operational support as required.
