Operations Manager

Company Description Albion Machine & Tool, established in 1927, is a full-service machine and tool shop located in south central Michigan and serving customers worldwide. The company offers job shop machining, short-run CNC production, large diameter turning and grinding, and large part machining, along with tooling, fixtures, gages, custom machines, and emergency machine and part repair. Albion Machine & Tool also specializes in roll manufacturing, repair, and refurbishing, supported by a fully equipped quality department. The team includes highly skilled machinists, many with decades of tenure, and serves multiple industries including food processing, OEM machinery, automotive, medical, pulp and paper, and more. Role Description The Operations Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Albion, MI, responsible for overseeing day-to-day shop operations and ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality production. This role includes managing labor and machine scheduling, coordinating job flow, and aligning resources to meet delivery commitments for both custom and production machining work. The Operations Manager will lead and support machinists and other team members, promote continuous improvement, and maintain standards for quality, safety, and housekeeping. The position also involves collaborating with leadership on capacity planning, monitoring KPIs, and implementing process improvements to enhance productivity, cost control, and customer satisfaction. Regular interaction with customers, vendors, and internal departments is expected to address operational issues and support long-term business goals.

Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing or machine shop operations, including production planning, scheduling, and workflow management.
• Strong people leadership skills, with experience supervising or managing teams and fostering a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
• Knowledge of machining processes (CNC, turning, grinding, tooling, fixtures, gages) and familiarity with job shop environments.
• Proficiency in operational problem-solving, decision-making, and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, 5S, or similar).
• Ability to use shop management or ERP systems, and basic proficiency with standard office software for reporting and communication.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities.
• Understanding of quality assurance practices and safety regulations in a machining and manufacturing context.
• Relevant education such as a technical diploma or degree in manufacturing, engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Prior experience in a similar operations or production management role is highly beneficial.
