Job Title: Product Design Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

Meta is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Design Mechanical Engineer to join our cross-functional hardware team. You will be responsible for the mechanical design, integration, and validation of battery systems across next-generation products, including AR/VR devices, wearables, and data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust and scalable battery designs.
• Perform structural, thermal, and vibration analysis to validate mechanical integrity and safety.
• Drive DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles from concept to mass production.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for battery-related mechanical issues.
• Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure quality and reliability of battery components.
• Design and develop mechanical enclosures and integration solutions for lithium-ion battery packs and cells
• Support regulatory compliance and safety certifications (e.g., UN38.3, UL, IEC).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical design of consumer electronics or battery systems or energy storage devices.
• Proficiency in CAD tools (NX).
• Experience in consumer electronics, automotive, or wearable device industries
• Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery technologies, materials, and safety considerations
• Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, stamping, ultrasonic welding, etc.).
• Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and thermal runaway mitigation.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
