About the job

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

As a Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead geotechnical tasks and help lead the delivery for a wide variety of projects, with a focus on medium- to large-scale civil infrastructure projects primarily in the water and transportation markets. These projects will include multiple delivery methods including conventional design-bid-build projects, as well as design-build projects. This position is based in Bellevue, WA.

Your responsibilities will include mentoring less experienced staff, leading projects in the development and implementation of geotechnical data collection programs, geotechnical analyses, preparation of reports, development of contract documents, and providing support during project construction.

Each day, you will have the opportunity to follow projects from concept development through the construction phase with our engineers. This position requires a geotechnical engineer who wants to function as part of a large interdisciplinary design team, who can interact with our existing and perspective clients, who can provide support to business development efforts, and who will assist the regional business group and geotechnical leadership in advancing the technical capabilities of the regional and global geotechnical group.

Technical skills that are required to serve in this role include, but are not necessarily limited to, knowledge and experience in the following areas

  • Exploration methods, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing for soil and rock
  • Experience with design, construction, and inspection of heavy infrastructure projects in the transportation and water markets
  • Design of typical geotechnical structures, such as shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, embankment and cut slopes, and ground improvement
  • An understanding of earthquake hazard evaluations, including liquefaction assessments, site-specific ground response analyses, and development of design spectra
  • Preparation of technical reports, technical presentations, design drawings, and specifications
  • Familiarity with computer programs for geotechnical analyses, such as SETTLE3, LPILE, SLIDE or SLOPE/W, MATHCAD, FB-Multipier, PLAXIS, and FLAC

Here's what you'll need

  • BS in Civil Engineering and MS/PhD with a geotechnical or geological emphasis
  • Minimum 8 years of geotechnical consulting experience with a focus on heavy infrastructure projects
  • PE license in state of Washington or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date
