About the job

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer will support the planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, desalination plants, water reuse facilities, and related infrastructure projects.

Working under the direction of the technical director and O&M managers, the successful candidate will assist with mechanical design, equipment selection, technical evaluations, field inspections, and project documentation. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical expertise in a growing and essential industry while working on impactful projects that support sustainable water management.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design Support

  • Assist in the evaluation of mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Support the selection and specification of pumps, blowers, compressors, valves, piping systems, screens, mixers, and other process equipment.
  • Prepare technical reports, equipment data sheets, and design documentation.
  • Review vendor submittals, equipment drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Assist in the development of mechanical layouts, P&IDs, and construction drawings.

Project Support

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including civil, process, electrical, and instrumentation engineers.
  • Support project managers with technical deliverables, schedules, and project coordination.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings.
  • Assist with cost estimates and equipment procurement evaluations.

Operations Support

  • Assist in evaluating equipment performance and reliability.
  • Support maintenance and asset management initiatives.
  • Analyze operational data and prepare technical recommendations.
  • Contribute to process improvement and energy efficiency projects.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Preferable Texas License PE

Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in engineering, design, construction, or operations.
  • Experience in water, wastewater, industrial facilities, utilities, energy, or manufacturing environments is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and equipment design.
  • Familiarity with pumps, piping systems, fluid mechanics, and rotating equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, or similar engineering software is preferred.
  • Understanding of engineering calculations and technical reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with water treatment, wastewater treatment, desalination, or industrial process facilities.
  • Exposure to hydraulic calculations, pumping systems, and process equipment selection.
  • Familiarity with applicable standards such as AWWA, ASME, ANSI, and Hydraulic Institute standards.
