About the job
The Site IT Engineer is the primary onsite IT representative for our Redlands distribution center. The role provides day-to-day technology support, first-response troubleshooting for warehouse systems and network issues, asset and spares management, documentation, and coordination with Corporate IT and approved technology vendors.
The support model is straightforward: the Site IT Engineer handles the ordinary; technology vendors handle the extraordinary, and Corporate IT retains technical and administrative control. This position is the eyes and hands of Corporate IT at the facility.
Because our warehouse management platform is cloud-hosted and warehouse operations run on wireless devices, network and wireless availability at this site directly determine whether the building can ship.
Responsibilities:
- User and endpoint support. Support desktops, laptops, warehouse workstations, tablets, RF scanners, vehicle-mounted terminals, mobile devices, printers, shipping stations, barcode equipment, scales, phones, and conference room technology. Troubleshoot hardware, operating systems, connectivity, printing, authentication, and application access issues, and coordinate warranty repair or replacement.
- Warehouse technology first response. Provide first-response support across receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping, cycle counting, inventory control, yard operations, and transportation interfaces. Understand how warehouse devices connect to the WMS, ERP, TMS, carrier applications, print services, and authentication systems.
- Incident triage. Quickly identify whether issues originate with the endpoint, network, peripheral, application, or external service, and escalate with useful diagnostics. WMS configuration, business rules, label templates, and vendor support remain with the Senior WMS Analyst; accurate escalation is essential.
- Network first response. Troubleshoot wired and wireless connectivity, switches, access points, cabling, network closets, circuits, DHCP, DNS, VLAN connectivity, and authentication. Verify physical connections, inspect equipment, test IP settings, run diagnostics, identify local versus site-wide issues, collect logs, and replace approved equipment under procedure. Know circuit inventory, confirm failover status, and alert Operations and Corporate IT on confirmed connectivity loss.
- Wireless and RF first response. Diagnose scanner connection failures, access point faults, authentication issues, coverage complaints, roaming problems, and localized degradation. Document impacts by location, device, access point, timing, symptoms, application, and affected users. Escalate RF design, spectrum analysis, and access point redesign, and notify Corporate IT before layout changes that may affect coverage.
- MDF, IDF, and physical infrastructure. Regularly inspect network and telecom spaces for alarms, power or UPS issues, temperature concerns, link faults, cable damage, unauthorized equipment, rack conditions, and security concerns. Maintain rack, patch panel, cabling, fiber, and equipment labeling and organization, and coordinate cabling, fiber, electrical, and UPS work with approved vendors.
- Incident management. Serve as onsite incident coordinator for distribution center technology issues: assess impact, define scope, perform approved troubleshooting, engage Corporate IT and vendors, provide smart hands, communicate status to Operations, document actions, validate restoration, and support post-incident review.
- Security incident reporting. Immediately report suspected security incidents through the designated Corporate IT channel, including unauthorized equipment or personnel, malware concerns, lost or stolen devices, credential compromise, and physical security failures. Do not investigate independently or provide administrative credentials to third parties.
- Vendor coordination. Coordinate onsite work with network, carrier, cabling, wireless, device, automation, and security vendors. Escort vendors, provide technical assistance, verify work follows Corporate IT standards and change procedures, confirm documentation is submitted, and escalate discrepancies. Do not expand scope or authorize additional billable work.
- Asset and spares management. Maintain accurate onsite IT asset inventory, including asset number, serial number, model, location, function, warranty status, and condition. Coordinate receipt, deployment, relocation, repair, replacement, and secure disposal. Maintain critical spares—scanners, label printers, access points, approved switches, optics, power supplies, cables, and peripherals—and replenish before minimum levels, especially ahead of peak season.
- Documentation. Maintain site documentation for inventory, MDF and IDF details, rack diagrams, closet photos, patch panels, circuits, device and access point locations, spares, vendor contacts, escalation paths, and troubleshooting or degraded-mode procedures. Submit infrastructure changes to Corporate IT for authoritative diagrams, CMDB, and IPAM records.
- Change management. Perform approved standard changes per Corporate IT procedure, including endpoint deployment, printer and scanner replacement, patch cabling, approved switch port changes, device moves, access point replacement, and hardware replacement using documented configurations. Do not alter network architecture, VLANs, routing, firewall policy, NAT, VPN, wireless architecture, security settings, or production firmware without approval. Observe peak, cutover, hypercare, and inventory change freezes, and enforce them with vendors.
- Preventive maintenance. Perform scheduled checks of MDF and IDF spaces, network equipment, UPS systems and batteries, backup connectivity, spares, printers and print heads, RF equipment and batteries, labeling, and asset records. Identify deteriorating conditions before outages occur and raise remediation requests.
- Project participation. Support site technology projects, including device staging and deployment, print and label validation, wireless survey support, cabling and access point installation oversight, pre-cutover readiness checks, and onsite cutover and hypercare support.

- Experience with an enterprise ticketing or ITSM platform.
- Strong documentation discipline.
