About Benton Lane
Benton Lane is a fast-growing family of eCommerce brands creating beautiful products for the home. Our portfolio includes Painted Paper, Lemon Park, Aspen&Arlo, Hillcroft Home, and other growing brands across home and gift.
We’re a small, ambitious team working at the intersection of eCommerce, design, technology, AI, and physical production. We manufacture in the U.S., operate multiple brands, and use technology to move faster—from custom Shopify experiences to internal automation and AI-powered workflows.
This is a startup-style environment: priorities move quickly, good ideas get implemented, and individual contributors have a meaningful impact on how the company operates.
This role is the data seat on our team. Your work will help answer some of the most important questions in the business: What should we make more of? What should we stop making? Where are we growing? Where are we losing margin? And where should we invest next?
What You’ll Do
- Own reporting and data discovery across our brands. You’ll model data, build useful views and dashboards, and help determine which metrics deserve the attention of leadership and our technology team.
- Turn ERP data into business decisions. You’ll spend significant time working with the data behind our products, orders, inventory, production, and operations—finding patterns and answering real questions with numbers.
- Bring our data together. Build and maintain pipelines that connect Shopify, Klaviyo, Fulfil (our ERP), and other systems into a reliable source of truth.
- Dig deeper than the dashboard. Investigate anomalies, test assumptions, and perform ad hoc analysis when the business needs an answer—not just another report.
- Use AI as part of your everyday toolkit. Use LLMs to accelerate querying and analysis, classify messy information, extract structure from unstructured data, and build evaluations that verify AI-generated outputs before the business relies on them.
- Build trust in the numbers. Catch the confident wrong answer—whether it came from a person, a dashboard, a query, or a model.
- Help shape how Benton Lane uses data. We’re still building. You’ll have the opportunity to influence our data models, reporting standards, tools, workflows, and how teams across the company make decisions.
What We’re Looking For
You don’t need to check every box. We care about curiosity, judgment, and the ability to figure things out.
- 2–5 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a similar role
- Strong SQL skills and comfort working directly with relational data
- Experience extracting and working with data from REST APIs
- Experience with Shopify, Klaviyo, ERP systems, or similar eCommerce platforms is a plus
- Experience building dashboards in a BI tool such as Looker, Metabase, Tableau, or Power BI—we care more about your judgment than which tool you’ve used
- Hands-on experience using AI in analytical work, whether through LLM-assisted querying and analysis, agentic tools, data classification/extraction, or preparing data for AI systems
- Strong analytical instincts and a willingness to question results that don’t make sense
- Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical teammates
- Experience with eCommerce, retail, inventory, manufacturing, or product data is a plus
You’ll Probably Thrive Here If You…
- Like getting into messy data and figuring out what’s actually going on
- Are comfortable moving between SQL, dashboards, APIs, spreadsheets, and AI tools
- Ask “does this number make sense?” before presenting it
- Can balance speed with accuracy
- Want ownership early and are excited to help build systems rather than inherit finished ones
Why This Role Is Different
- You’ll be close to the decisions. You’ll work directly with our CTO and company leadership, and your analysis will influence product, marketing, inventory, production, and investment decisions.
- You’ll see the whole business. Because we’re vertically integrated, our data spans the customer journey from marketing and eCommerce through manufacturing, inventory, fulfillment, and financial performance.
- You’ll get to build, not just maintain. Our data stack and AI workflows are evolving quickly. You’ll have significant input into what we build next and how we build it.
- Your work will have visible impact. This isn’t a role where analysis disappears into a slide deck. The goal is to turn data into better decisions—and then see those decisions play out across the business.
We’re looking for someone who wants to join the team and build with us. We are not considering agencies, contractors, or third-party service providers for this position.
