Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

The Maintenance Engineer provides technical support to plant operations and maintenance teams to ensure equipment availability, reliability, and operational readiness. This role serves as a key technical resource for reactive and proactive maintenance, emergency equipment response, preventive maintenance, equipment upgrades, and continuous process improvement.

The position works closely with Skilled Trades, Maintenance Supervisors, and Production teams as part of a cross-functional team (CFT) to resolve equipment issues, improve maintenance processes, and support new production line launches.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide plant-floor support for reactive maintenance, proactive maintenance, and maintenance-method development by working daily with Skilled Trades, Maintenance Supervisors, and Production teams to maximize equipment availability.
• Provide second-level emergency production support for unscheduled equipment and machine stoppages. Approximately 70% of the role will focus on emergency production support and equipment troubleshooting.
• Manage and maintain equipment documentation, including spare-parts lists, machine prints, equipment schematics, maintenance plans, and technical documentation.
• Acquire and manage external service providers, contractors, technical support, and equipment spare parts.
• Analyze maintenance KPIs and performance data to identify trends, prioritize repairs, and drive improvements in maintenance activities.
• Serve as a technical coach for maintenance personnel regarding maintenance methods, processes, procedures, and standards.
• Define, manage, and maintain spare-parts requirements and preventive-maintenance plans within the company’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Create, manage, and review maintenance work orders and purchase requisitions through the CMMS.
• Manage equipment retrofit, upgrade, replacement, and improvement projects, including budgets, schedules, and project timelines.
• Maintain and control technical documentation, equipment schematics, engineering drawings, and machine prints for production equipment.
• Support maintenance operational readiness during new production-line launches and equipment installations.
• Ensure engineering and maintenance practices comply with applicable government regulations, safety requirements, and company standards.
• Participate as a key strategic member in developing future maintenance strategies and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance processes, production efficiency, and overall plant performance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5–7 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Maintenance Engineering
• Manufacturing Engineering
• Facilities Engineering
• Operational Engineering
• Environmental Engineering
• Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when dealing with complex technical problems.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and methods of manufacture.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with Skilled Trades, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Experience with AutoCAD or an equivalent CAD application.

Preferred Qualifications

• Approximately 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Experience working in a manufacturing/production plant environment.
• Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance work-order management.
• Experience managing equipment upgrades, retrofits, replacements, or maintenance improvement projects.
• Experience analyzing maintenance KPIs and implementing reliability improvements.
