Sales Engineer – Utility Market
Location: 100% Remote (East Coast Preferred)
Travel: Approximately 40–50%
Virginia Transformer has an immediate opening for a Sales Engineer focused on the Utility Market. This individual will be responsible for developing new business, growing existing accounts, increasing market share, and delivering profitable sales growth across Investor-Owned Utilities and Public Power Utilities.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute a sales growth strategy for your assigned utility territory.
- Generate new business opportunities while expanding existing customer relationships.
- Increase sales, profitability, market share, and customer satisfaction.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of utility opportunities.
- Collaborate with Application Engineers to prepare accurate, competitive quotations.
- Drive quotation follow-up activities to improve booking rates and profitability.
- Partner with independent sales representatives, EPC contractors, distributors, and key channel partners to maximize territory performance.
- Support customer visits, product training, and technical presentations.
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure outstanding customer communication throughout project execution.
- Lead commercial negotiations for strategic opportunities.
- Maintain CRM accuracy, forecasting, and pipeline reporting.
- Monitor utility market trends, customer activity, and competitive intelligence.
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop compelling customer-facing sales materials.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Technical sales experience, preferably within the electric utility industry.
- Experience selling medium- or high-voltage electrical equipment, power transformers, field services, testing, or commissioning solutions.
- Experience working with manufacturer representatives, EPC firms, contractors, and distribution partners.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated success growing territories and exceeding sales objectives.
- Ability to travel approximately 40–50%.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
