About the job
My fellow humans of WellFound,
Time for some lighthearted world domination.
This time, we are looking for someone who thinks all models are wrong, but some are useful enough to build a machine from.
Dreamers is looking for a founding-level multiphysics and computational mechanics lead in New York City. The work is to turn a new electromechanical system into a parameterized, executable digital twin that engineers can actually use: explore designs, test control logic, calibrate against hardware, and make better manufacturing decisions before expensive mistakes become physical.
You will:
- Build coupled electromagnetic, thermal, structural, and dynamic models.
- Create parametric design-space, sensitivity, and optimization workflows.
- Expose simulation to Python, MATLAB/Simulink, C++, or other control and software interfaces.
- Build reduced-order models and calibration or system-identification loops from bench data.
- Translate model results into tolerances, materials, reliability, DFM, and manufacturing decisions.
- Work directly with founders and hardware and controls engineers in fast build-test-model loops.
We are looking for:
- Deep practical experience modeling real electromechanical systems, actuators, motors, precision motion, robotics, aerospace, semiconductor equipment, medical devices, or adjacent machines.
- Strength in several of electromagnetics, nonlinear mechanics, heat transfer, vibration and modal behavior, contact, friction, hysteresis, fatigue, rigid or flexible-body dynamics, and controls-aware simulation.
- Serious hands-on ability with tools such as COMSOL, Ansys Maxwell/Mechanical/Twin Builder, Abaqus, Simulink/Simscape, Modelica, MSC Adams, OpenFOAM/Fluent, or comparable systems.
- Enough Python, MATLAB, or C++ to turn simulation into a repeatable engineering system rather than a folder of reports.
- Evidence that your models have met real hardware, produced measurable predictions, and survived the introduction.
A PhD is welcome, but useful machines are more persuasive than elegant theory in isolation.
This is a full-time, on-site New York City role. You must already be in the area or be willing to relocate.
Please share a current resume, examples of physical systems you personally modeled and validated, the tools you used, and your current location or relocation plan.
Questions? Curiosity is good. Inquire within.
