About the job
About us
evaluLabs uses large language models to create highly realistic, company- and role-specific interview simulations. The platform adapts personas and formats — technical, HR, system design, and coding rounds — to mirror how real companies actually interview. By replicating real interview cultures, we help candidates prepare more effectively and confidently, and help employers improve hiring outcomes through data-informed, scalable interview practice.
We're an early-stage startup building in public. The product is live and improving weekly.
About this role — please read before applying
This is a founding team role, not a salaried position. We're pre-revenue and self-funded, so we're upfront about what we can and can't offer right now:
Months 1–4: equity-based, no cash compensation. Vesting on a standard schedule, agreed in writing before you start.
Month 4 review: we sit down and assess against agreed goals (see below). If the traction is there and the fit is right, we move you to a paid, permanent CMO position — and we'd be genuinely happy to. That's the outcome we're building toward, not a hedge.
Commitment: roughly 8-12 hours a week, fully remote, flexible hours. We care about output and judgment, not time logged.
We'd rather lose applicants at this line than waste anyone's time later.
What you'll own
As our first marketing hire, you'd shape the function from zero rather than inherit one:
Define our market positioning and the story we tell candidates and institutions
Build and run the go-to-market plan for user acquisition and early revenue
Own digital and content strategy — organic, community, partnerships, campus channels
Keep brand messaging consistent across every channel
Handle PR and early media/community outreach
Read the data — funnels, conversion, retention, campaign ROI — and use it to decide what we double down on
Work directly with the founder(s) on product and pricing decisions, not at arm's length
As we grow and budget appears, hire and mentor the marketing team under you
What we're looking for
Must have
Real experience leading marketing (senior role, founder, or head-of-function) — ideally in SaaS, AI, edtech, or another technology-driven business
Strategic marketing and market planning ability: you can go from a blank page to a plan and then execute it yourself
Comfort being hands-on — at this stage there's no team to delegate to
Strong grasp of market research: customer needs, competitive landscape, emerging trends
Data literacy — you can interpret metrics and let them change your mind
Excellent communication and the ability to work closely with a small founding team
Nice to have
Public relations and media/community outreach experience
Sales or GTM background, aligning marketing with pipeline and revenue
Experience marketing to students, job seekers, universities, or HR/hiring teams
Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or equivalent practical experience
What the 4-month review looks at
We'll agree on the exact targets together in week one, but broadly:
Clear positioning and messaging in place and in use across channels
Measurable growth in signups and active users versus our starting baseline
At least one repeatable acquisition channel identified and working
Early revenue or partnership traction (institutional/campus deals count)
Hit these and we convert the role to paid and permanent.
Why this might be worth it
Founding-level ownership and a title that reflects it
Equity in a product that's already live, with real users
Total autonomy over the marketing function — no committee, no legacy playbook
Direct work with the founding team on the whole business, not just marketing
A very unusual portfolio story: taking an AI product from early traction to market
