What will you do as a Senior Application Engineer at Sealed Air?

As a Senior Application Engineer, you will serve as a technical expert connecting packaging materials, equipment, processes, and customer applications to develop and implement solutions that create value for our customers and Sealed Air. You will evaluate and validate packaging solutions through testing, field trials, root-cause analysis, and data-driven problem solving while partnering closely with customers, R&D, Sales, Materials & Equipment, Supply Chain, Sustainability, and Marketing teams.

This role is ideal for a packaging-focused engineer who can translate a deep understanding of packaging technologies and customer operations into practical solutions, product improvements, and new opportunities. You will play a key role in identifying customer needs, supporting the development and commercialization of innovative packaging solutions, and influencing technical decisions across a matrix organization.

Why do we need you?

  • Evaluate new and existing packaging materials, systems, and equipment through rigorous testing and an understanding of customer requirements and operating conditions.
  • Develop and implement strategic ideas that enhance existing packaging product lines or support the development of new solutions that improve customer value and profitability.
  • Provide technical solutions to customers, external vendors, field representatives, and Sealed Air teams through on-site customer support and visits to other Sealed Air facilities.
  • Develop, design, and execute test plans and field trials to validate the performance, reliability, and interaction of packaging materials, equipment, and processes.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and use data to identify technical issues, determine corrective actions, and support fact-based business decisions.
  • Translate customer needs and technical findings into recommendations for product, material, equipment, and process improvements.
  • Lead technical projects that improve manufacturing processes and raw material performance, quantifying the impact of changes on packaging performance and customer applications.
  • Build strong customer relationships by applying technical expertise, communication, influencing, and consultative skills to accelerate implementation and adoption of Sealed Air solutions.
  • Develop value propositions, competitive intelligence, project definitions, and technical documentation for new and existing packaging solutions.
  • Partner with Materials & Equipment, R&D, Sustainability, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales, and other cross-functional teams to develop and transfer packaging technologies regionally and globally.
  • Work effectively within a matrix-managed organization, influencing stakeholders and driving projects from technical concept through implementation.

What skills will help you succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong professional experience in packaging, preferably with direct exposure to packaging materials, packaging systems, equipment, or packaging applications.
  • Experience evaluating or developing packaging solutions through testing, trials, experimentation, or technical problem solving.
  • Strong understanding of the interaction between packaging materials, equipment, processes, and customer applications.
  • Experience conducting root-cause analysis and using data to solve complex technical problems.
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear recommendations and business value propositions.
  • Strong customer-facing and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience creating data-driven technical reports and presenting concepts and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to influence within a matrix organization.
  • Highly motivated, reliable, solutions-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of complex technical challenges.
  • Flexible to travel domestically and internationally, at least 30% of the time.
