About the Role
We're looking for a Backend Lead to join our early-stage engineering team. Your main focus will be backend development, APIs, databases, and integrations, with strong ownership over how these systems are architected, while also contributing to frontend features when required. This is a hands-on coding role with added ownership over technical direction as the team grows. You'll work closely with the engineering team's leadership and have significant ownership over the products and systems you build.
What You'll Work On
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs
- Design and work with databases and data models
- Design system architecture for applied AI features, including how AI/LLM components fit into the broader product (data flow, caching, latency, and cost trade-offs)
- Build integrations with CRMs, calendars, booking systems, and other business platforms
- Work with AI/LLM APIs and agent workflows
- Build webhooks, background jobs, and automation
- Implement authentication, authorization, and permissions
- Contribute to frontend features when required
- Debug and resolve production issues
- Improve performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Turn recurring customer requirements into reusable product features
What We're Looking For
- At least 1 year of hands-on backend development experience
- Strong backend development fundamentals
- Experience building REST APIs
- Experience working with SQL(postgres) or NoSQL databases
- Solid system design fundamentals, with the ability to reason about trade-offs when designing systems that incorporate AI/LLM components
- Comfortable integrating third-party APIs
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Git/GitHub
- Ability to learn new technologies independently
- Comfortable using modern AI development tools
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving early-stage startup
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini
- Experience with AI agents, tool calling, RAG, or embeddings
- Experience designing system architecture for AI-powered products specifically
- Experience with Docker, cloud infrastructure, or CI/CD
- Experience building SaaS products
- Personal projects or a strong GitHub profile
