Senior Bookkeeper

Vitruvio is a tech-enabled financial operations provider for the insurance industry, launching out of the D. E. Shaw group. The company seeks a senior bookkeeper to serve as the technical quality backbone for a team of production analysts, reviewing their work, resolving complex bookkeeping questions, and ensuring client books meet Vitruvio's standard before they go out the door. Reporting to the head of operations, this role offers the chance to set the technical bar for the team while safeguarding the accuracy and consistency that define Vitruvio's client experience.

What you'll do day-to-day

• Serve as the primary quality assurance layer for the production team, reviewing completed bookkeeping work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before it reaches clients.
• Act as the first point of escalation for technical bookkeeping questions, guiding analysts through complex transactions, unusual entries, and agency-specific accounting treatments.
• Establish and maintain the technical standards the production team works to, including how transactions are categorized and how books are structured across client engagements.
• Identify recurring errors and knowledge gaps in the team's work, then close them through coaching, written guidance, and updated procedures.
• Review the accuracy of general ledgers, monthly close packages, and financial statements produced by analysts, flagging issues and directing corrections.
• Support onboarding of new clients and new analysts by setting technical expectations and validating that work meets standard early.
• Flag emerging quality risks, patterns, and at-risk engagements to the head of operations in a timely manner.
• Contribute to process documentation and standard operating procedures, helping codify the technical bookkeeping standards the team relies on.

Who we're looking for

• At least four years of hands-on bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally within a financial services, bookkeeping, or professional services environment.
• Deep full-cycle bookkeeping expertise, with a track record in the insurance industry or supporting insurance agency clients strongly preferred.
• Strong command of QuickBooks Online and the judgment to evaluate whether someone else's work in it is correct.
• Demonstrated ability to review work across a multi-client portfolio, hold a consistent quality bar, and maintain high standards in a fast-paced, high-growth setting.
• Solid problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail, particularly in catching errors others miss.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical bookkeeping concepts clearly to analysts and to communicate with clients when needed.
• Experience with process documentation and standard operating procedure development.
• Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Monday.com, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365.
