About PopUp Bagels

PopUp Bagels is not just a bagel company—we’re a cultural movement. Our stores are small, our vibes are loud, and our energy is contagious. From signature neon and iconic bullhorns to our “Not Famous but Known” mirror, we’ve reimagined not just how a bagel is created, but how it’s enjoyed: Grip, Rip and Dip! With a cult-like following, massive social presence, and unparalleled collaborations with top companies, partners and Brand Ambassadors PopUp Bagels is defining a new food lifestyle brand. We keep things simple, but we do them really, really well. And our customers agree.

The Role

The Financial Analyst supports the budgeting, forecasting, and reporting engine of a fast-growing, multi-unit food and lifestyle brand, helping turn store-level, corporate, and franchise data into insight that leadership can act on. Reporting to the FP&A Manager, this role prepares recurring reporting packages, variance analysis, and the underlying schedules that support new store openings, pricing and menu decisions, labor and food cost management, and franchise performance. This is an entry-level, development-focused role with direct mentorship from the FP&A Manager and meaningful exposure to Accounting, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, and People. It is well suited to a dedicated and detail-oriented early-career analyst who wants to learn the mechanics of multi-unit finance from the ground up and grow into broader ownership over time.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Support the annual budget and quarterly reforecast cycles by preparing templates, collecting and consolidating departmental submissions, and documenting assumptions under the direction of the FP&A Manager
  • Prepare recurring weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting packages, including P&L summaries, KPI scorecards, and flash reports
  • Compile variance analysis of actual results against budget, forecast, and prior year at the company, store, and department level; research drivers and draft supporting commentary
  • Maintain and update existing driver-based financial models, including store-level P&Ls and new unit economics templates, and assist with building new models as proficiency develops
  • Partner with Operations and other cross-functional teams to analyze business performance, including sales trends, transactions, average check, labor productivity, costing and other key KPIs
  • Support new store development and performance analysis, including new unit economics, capital expenditure and cost tracking.
  • Compile franchise performance reporting, including royalty revenue trends and franchisee-reported results
  • Assist with cash flow and working capital reporting in partnership with Accounting
  • Help maintain reporting hierarchies, chart of accounts mappings, and data integrity within financial reporting and planning systems
  • Assist with strategic and commercial analysis, including price changes, promotions, limited-time offers, collabs, and other initiatives
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis and presentation materials for the FP& Manager and EVP of Finance & Accounting, translating financial and operating data into clear insights and recommendations for leadership
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate recurring reporting, and help document FP&A processes and procedures
  • Build working knowledge of company operations, systems, and reporting standards through active participation in team reviews, training, and cross-functional meetings

Required Education, Experience, and KSAs:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related field required
  • 0-2+ years of experience required. Internship, co-op, or academic project experience in finance, accounting, or data analysis preferred and may be considered
  • Coursework or practical exposure to financial statement analysis, budgeting, or financial modeling
  • Interest or experience in restaurant, retail, hospitality, CPG, or other multi-unit business environments
  • Working proficiency in Excel required, including pivot tables, lookup functions such as XLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH, and SUMIFS, with the aptitude and willingness to develop advanced modeling skills on the job
  • Working understanding of financial statements and core accounting concepts, including accruals and GAAP fundamentals, and how operating decisions flow through the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
  • Willingness to learn our systems, with developing proficiency expected on the job; exposure to an ERP (Restaurant365, NetSuite, or comparable) or a BI/planning tool (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Adaptive Planning, Vena) preferred, and familiarity with SQL or Python a plus
  • Interest or experience using AI tools such as Claude to improve the speed and quality of analysis
  • Interest in learning multi-unit and restaurant unit economics, including cost of goods sold, prime cost, labor productivity, four-wall EBITDA, and comparable store sales
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through unfamiliar problems methodically and ask clarifying questions rather than guess
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain analysis clearly to non-financial audiences
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, including a consistent habit of reviewing and validating own work before submitting it
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to receive and apply feedback constructively, and to carry assigned work through to completion with limited reminders
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Intellectual curiosity, a bias for action, and comfort working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where process is still being built

Physical Requirements

The following physical requirements are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with qualifying disabilities.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching as needed in an office environment
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 15 pounds on an occasional basis (e.g., files, office supplies, equipment)
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read printed and digital documents, spreadsheets, and financial reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via video conference
  • Occasional travel to corporate offices, franchise locations, or external meetings may be required (estimated up to 10%)
