Role Description The Financial Controller role is a full-time, hybrid position based in Lansing, MI, with the ability to work from home on a partial basis. In this role, the individual oversees the company’s accounting operations, including general ledger management, monthly and annual close processes, and preparation of accurate and timely financial statements. The controller leads financial reporting, ensures compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations, and supports audits and tax filings. Day-to-day responsibilities include budgeting and forecasting, variance and cost analysis, cash flow monitoring, and partnering with leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decisions. The role also involves improving internal controls, optimizing financial systems and processes, and supervising or mentoring accounting team members.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Accounting skills, including general ledger management, month-end close, and knowledge of GAAP or relevant standards.
- Candidates should possess expertise in Financial Statements and Financial Reporting, including preparation, analysis, and presentation to management.
- Candidates should possess solid Finance skills, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and support of strategic financial planning.
- Candidates should possess advanced Analytical Skills, with the ability to interpret data, perform variance analysis, and provide actionable recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
- Several years of progressive experience in accounting or controllership, ideally within manufacturing or a related industry.
- Proficiency with ERP and accounting software, as well as strong Excel skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy, meet deadlines, uphold internal controls, and collaborate effectively across teams.
