Backend Engineer (Python/Django)

DafoTalk is building a voice-first platform that helps people have meaningful conversations through intelligent matching and real-time communication.

We're currently building our MVP and are looking for a backend engineer who enjoys solving product and engineering problems from first principles.

This is an opportunity to work closely with the founding team and influence the architecture of the product from day one.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services using Python and Django
• Build and maintain REST APIs
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas
• Implement authentication, authorization and security best practices
• Build and maintain real-time communication systems
• Work with WebSockets and related real-time infrastructure
• Contribute to WebRTC-based voice communication and signaling
• Work with Redis and Celery for asynchronous processing and distributed state
• Collaborate with Flutter engineers to build product features
• Optimize application performance and reliability
• Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision making
• Debug, test, deploy and maintain backend systems in production
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code

Requirements

• Strong Python programming skills
• Professional experience with Django and Django REST Framework
• Experience with PostgreSQL
• Experience designing and building REST APIs
• Experience with Redis
• Strong understanding of backend architecture and database design
• Experience with Git
• Experience working with production backend systems
• Hands-on experience with WebSockets and real-time communication
• Experience with Django Channels or equivalent WebSocket infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with WebRTC
• Experience with LiveKit or equivalent real-time audio/video infrastructure
• Understanding of audio/video communication and real-time connection handling
• Experience with signaling systems
• Experience building or working with live/real-time communication systems
• Understanding of scaling real-time connections and backend infrastructure
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership
• Excellentcommunication skills
