About the job
Lornets is a specialist engineering consultancy helping organisations when software becomes commercially or operationally critical and the underlying production engineering needs to mature.
We work with founders and technology leaders during moments such as enterprise growth, fundraising and technical diligence, reliability pressure, platform change, and AI systems moving into serious production use.

THE ROLE
We are looking for a hands-on Business Development Lead to help build Lornets’ commercial pipeline from the ground up.
This is a consultative business-development role, not a high-volume SDR or account-management position. You will identify organisations experiencing a genuine trigger, develop a hypothesis about the technical and commercial pressure they may be facing, and open credible conversations with founders, CTOs and senior technology leaders.
You will work directly with the Founder and technical team to turn qualified opportunities into clearly scoped engineering engagements.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Research and prioritise trigger-qualified target accounts
• Build pipeline through thoughtful outbound, referrals, partnerships and relevant events
• Lead early discovery conversations with founders, CTOs and engineering leaders
• Qualify opportunities based on urgency, technical relevance, commercial value and buying readiness
• Maintain disciplined follow-up and accurate pipeline records
• Support proposals, engagement scoping and commercial progression with the Founder and technical team
• Develop relationships with investors, accelerators, product studios and other potential referral partners
• Capture market feedback so that Lornets can improve its positioning, offers and commercial approach
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• Typically five or more years in business development or consultative sales
• Experience selling complex technical services, engineering consultancy or similar professional services
• Evidence that you can create opportunities yourself rather than relying primarily on inbound leads
• Confidence speaking with founders, CTOs and senior technical buyers
• Strong research, written communication, discovery and commercial judgement
• Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment without a large existing sales function
• Able to understand technical business problems without pretending to be the engineer
This role is unlikely to suit someone whose experience is primarily account management, inbound sales or high-volume transactional outreach.
COMPENSATION
£55,000–£60,000 base salary.
Commission is uncapped and calculated at 15% of collected gross profit on new client engagements that you originate and materially progress through close.
At £200,000 of collected new-business gross profit, commission would be £30,000, giving total on-target cash compensation of £85,000–£90,000, depending on base salary.
An additional 7.5% of collected gross profit applies to eligible expansion work from those clients during the first 12 months. Commission is paid after the relevant client payment is received.
LOCATION
This is a full-time, London-based hybrid role. You should be able to attend relevant client meetings, events and working sessions in London. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through Wellfound with your CV or profile.
Please include a short example of a complex technical or professional service you helped sell. Tell us who the buyer was, how you created the opportunity, the approximate engagement value, and your role through discovery, proposal and close.
