About Projekt Network
Projekt Network is a professional networking and collaboration platform connecting tradespeople and businesses in the construction and skilled trades industry. It combines a professional social network, a job marketplace, and a project-portfolio showcase in one product, shipped across three coordinated surfaces: a Next.js web app, native iOS/Android apps, and a shared Django cloud API — all hosted cloud-native on Google Cloud.
We're growing quickly and expanding our engineering team.
The Role
We're looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer who can move confidently across all three of our surfaces — the Django API, the Next.js web app, and the React Native mobile apps.
This is a versatility-first role. You'll build new features end to end and you'll be one of the people who figures out what's actually going wrong when something breaks in production. The most valuable person on a team our size isn't the one with the deepest knowledge of a single framework — it's the one who can pick up an unfamiliar part of the system, work out what's really happening, and fix it properly.
You'll be joining a small engineering team working on a live product with real users, so what you ship reaches people within days rather than quarters. You'll also have a direct hand in technical decisions — architecture, tooling, and how the team works — rather than inheriting someone else's.
Key Responsibilities
Feature Development, End to End
Design and ship features across the full stack: Django models, DRF endpoints and business logic through to the Next.js interfaces and React Native screens people actually use. Take features from a rough idea to something shipped and working on every surface.
Debugging & Production Support
Diagnose and resolve issues wherever they live — a slow query, a broken API contract, a mobile-only rendering bug, a third-party integration failing quietly. Reproduce problems, form a hypothesis, test it, and fix the root cause rather than the symptom.
Cross-Platform Consistency
Keep the web app and mobile apps coherent as the product evolves. Make sure a feature launched on the web has a considered path onto iOS and Android, and that the shared API serves both well.
AI Features
Own and extend the AI-powered parts of the platform. We already ship an AI assistant that coaches tradespeople on their careers, guides users around the platform, and surfaces relevant people and jobs from our own data, plus AI-assisted generation of resumes, job descriptions and summaries. You'll build on that: improving prompts and output quality, extending our multi-provider abstraction layer, keeping streaming responses fast and reliable, controlling cost and latency, and designing new AI features that are genuinely useful rather than bolted on.
Code Quality & Testing
Write meaningful tests. Review code and have yours reviewed. Help set and hold the standards for a codebase that needs to stay workable as the team grows.
Performance & Reliability
Profile and improve slow paths across the stack — database queries, API responses, page loads, and app startup. Help keep the platform stable through growth spikes.
Technical Stack
Backend
- Python 3.12+
- Django 5.0 & Django REST Framework
- PostgreSQL
- Docker
Frontend & Mobile
- Next.js / React
- TypeScript
- React Native (Expo)
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Google Cloud Platform
- GitHub Actions for CI/CD
Additional Services
- Clerk (authentication)
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong proficiency in Python and Django, including Django REST Framework
- Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript — we use Next.js
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs
- Solid understanding of PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows, including code review
- Experience writing unit tests as a normal part of shipping
- Hands-on experience building production features on top of large language model APIs — for example OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini. We care that you've shipped something real and dealt with the consequences: prompt design, handling bad or unexpected output, streaming, latency, cost, and failure modes. Research or ML-engineering credentials are not what we're after
- Genuinely strong debugging skills — reading logs, reproducing issues, and diagnosing problems in production, not just locally
- Legal authorization to work in Canada (this role cannot offer visa sponsorship)
Nice to Have
- React Native / Expo experience — our mobile apps are a first-class part of the product, and this is the single most useful bonus skill for this role
- Deeper LLM work: retrieval-augmented generation, tool/function calling, evaluating output quality systematically, or managing token cost at scale
- Production experience with Google Cloud Platform
- Docker and containerization
- Experience with third-party authentication systems and JWT
- Image processing and file storage at scale
- Monitoring and observability tooling
- CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitHub Actions
- Experience as an early engineer at a startup, or otherwise working without much scaffolding
- An eye for design and UX — you don't need to be a designer, but caring how things look and feel goes a long way here
Not Required
- A degree
- Prior experience in construction or the skilled trades — plenty of our best ideas come from people learning the industry as they go
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of your work
- Collaborative mindset and a constructive approach to code review
- Attention to detail and a commitment to code quality
- Proactive about spotting and solving problems before they're assigned to you
What You'll Get
- Competitive salary and equity package
- Remote-first work environment (Montreal timezone preferred)
- Flexible working hours
- The chance to work on a product with real users and real impact
- Modern tech stack and engineering practices
- Genuine ownership and a direct line to technical decisions
- Professional development opportunities
Application Process
Please submit your resume and a brief note about why you're interested in this role. Include any relevant GitHub repositories or portfolio projects that demonstrate your Python/Django and React work — and if everything you've built is private, just tell us about it.
