Business Data Analyst

TekStaff's Client has a current vacancy for a Business Data Analyst.

Contract Duration: 4 months + possibility of extension

Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid (3 days in office)

Typical Day in Role:

• Legacy Analysis & Documentation: Analyze existing legacy reports in SQL Server (stored procedures, complex queries) and Power BI (DAX, data models, dataflows) to thoroughly document current data transformations, business logic, and source-to-target mappings.
• Migration & Mapping: Map legacy data transformations to new data products on the Azure Databricks platform to ensure a seamless transition and migration.
• Process Optimization: Identify duplication of logic across reports and find opportunities to simplify and streamline overall reporting processes.
• Data Profiling & Quality: Perform data analysis using SQL and Excel to profile data, identify inconsistencies, and conduct root-cause analysis on data quality issues (including CRM/Salesforce data hygiene).
• Collaboration & Liaison: Serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders, data engineers, and IT teams to translate legacy reporting logic into requirements for the new modernized data architecture.
• Issue Resolution: Collaborate with application owners to resolve identified data discrepancies and implement permanent data governance solutions.
• Root Cause Analysis: Analyzes and investigates the root cause of data hygiene issues with the business and source team to create remediation action plan and roadmap.
• Tools used: CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Creating, managing, and analyzing surveys, Performing data analysis using SQL and Excel to profile data and identify data inconsistencies, Using PowerBI for visualizing insights
• Reporting: Reports on the workstream progress and remediation efforts to stakeholders.

Candidate Requirements/Must Have Skills:

1. 5+ years as a Data/Business Analyst with proven experience in data migration projects, documenting end-to-end data lineage, and creating source-to-target mappings.
2. 3-5 years of strong SQL experience (specifically SQL Server) writing and analyzing complex queries and stored procedures to profile data and identify inconsistencies.
3. 3-5 years of experience with Power BI, with a specific focus on analyzing existing Power BI reports, DAX, queries, and dataflows to extract and document business logic.
4. Demonstrated experience in Data Quality & Governance, including conducting root-cause analysis for data issues and working with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) for data hygiene.
5. Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms, ideally Azure Databricks, to facilitate the mapping of legacy data to new cloud-based data products.
6. 1-2 years hands-on experience with this CRM platform strongly preferred: Salesforce
7. Excellent communication skills and Presentation skills including, summarizing findings in a PPT format and presenting to varying levels of stakeholders are critical for the role.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

1. Working across multiple teams and stakeholders (business, data and IT)
2. Experience with MDM (master data management) tools
3. Experience with building data solutions and gathering requirements for those types of projects
4. Previous experience with Top Banks / FI is nice to have.

Soft Skills Required:

• Excellent communication skills
• Presentation skills – summarizing findings in a PPT format and presenting to varying levels of stakeholders

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree

-Data Bricks certification is nice to have.
