About the job
Join Sniffspot to build the future of dog parks — a global platform giving dogs safe freedom and their humans peace of mind.
About Us
Sniffspot is the Airbnb for dog parks! We enable anyone to rent land by the hour as a safe and private dog park.
Dogs evolved in a world where they could run free — but modern life rarely gives them that freedom. As a result, dogs today face challenges like obesity, reactivity, and anxiety. Sniffspot exists to change that by reconnecting dogs with their natural instincts, helping them live happier and healthier lives.
We're a marketplace where guests (dog parents) rent spots (land) from hosts (landowners) by the hour.
What It's Like to Work at Sniffspot
Sniffspot is an early-stage, US-based startup with a small, global, fully remote team. You'll be joining a close-knit group that's building the foundation of the company. You'll have major impact on both our product direction and engineering culture.
We operate primarily asynchronously, giving you control over your focus time. You'll join a daily stand-up and maintain working overlap with US Eastern hours, collaborating with teammates across multiple time zones. When issues arise post-release, we trust our team to jump in and collaborate in real time to resolve them quickly.
We value architectural humility, encouraging open design discussions and peer reviews to validate and strengthen our systems. Our engineers are driven by a continuous improvement mindset — always exploring new tools and practices that improve performance, cost, and operability. We communicate trade-offs transparently, ensuring decisions are well understood and open to feedback.
We're customer-obsessed, design-oriented, and driven by feedback. Everything we build starts from understanding what makes dog owners' and hosts' experiences better.
Sniffspot is proud to be a diverse, inclusive company that values curiosity, empathy, and collaboration in everything we do.
You Will
- Build and ship features in our React Native app (iOS and Android) — the primary way dog parents and hosts experience Sniffspot.
- Partner with product to build and iterate on experiments, bringing strong user-orientation and design judgment to implementation and learning from the results — knowing some experiments will fail and be reworked; that's how we learn.
- Write automated unit and integration tests in the mobile environment, and help us improve test coverage and speed of change with confidence.
- Your primary focus will be mobile, but we're a small team — you'll occasionally contribute to our web frontend or help solve problems outside your core area when needed.
- Participate in the product development process from start to finish — helping scope projects, measuring their success, and iterating based on user feedback.
- Ensure smooth rollouts and monitor feature impact post-launch.
- Collaborate effectively with a global, remote engineering team.
We're Looking for Someone Who Has
- 5+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on mobile.
- Confident, deep knowledge of React Native, including the nuances between Android and iOS. A bias toward Android experience is a plus.
- A strong product-quality mindset, with attention to performance, reliability, observability, and the details that make a mobile experience feel polished.
- A strong interest in taking end to end ownership and accountability for their work.
- Experience shipping and maintaining production mobile apps, including CI/CD, automated testing, app store releases, monitoring, and diagnosing issues in production (App Store and Google Play).
- An experimentation mindset — comfort running A/B tests and treating failed tests as learning, not wasted work.
- Pragmatism about short- and long-term trade-offs between speed and sustainability across engineering practices (build systems, automated tests, tooling).
- Willing and able to contribute across the application beyond mobile.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Availability to work mostly asynchronously, with at least 4 hours of overlap with US Eastern business hours (9am–5pm ET) and daily stand-up attendance.
- Comfort collaborating directly with founders, product leads, and other stakeholders.
- A habit of seeking out feedback from users and advocating empathetically for them throughout product development.
- Value in feedback and open collaboration — you're as comfortable reviewing others' work as you are having yours reviewed.
- You've seen what strong mobile engineering looks like at scale and know how to apply those lessons pragmatically in a fast-moving startup.
Why Join Us
- You'll shape the foundation of a growing product and company.
- You'll take meaningful ownership over both the technical direction and user experience, while collaborating with talented peers.
- You'll work in a small, high-impact team where your voice matters.
- You'll build features that directly improve the lives of dogs and their humans around the world.
Application
Please apply through Wellfound or LinkedIn.
We only consider applications that include a cover letter explaining why you're interested in working for Sniffspot.
