About the job
ELECTRICAL DIVISION
Sales / Project Manager
Cox-Powell | Williamsburg, VA (Hampton Roads & Central Virginia territory)
Compensation: $95,000–$110,000 base, plus incentive compensation
Employment Type: Full-Time
About The Role
Cox-Powell is growing its Electrical Division and looking for a Sales / Project Manager to drive that growth. This is a hunter role focused on existing commercial and industrial accounts — not bid-market estimating. You'll identify, propose, and close electrical upgrade, retrofit, renovation, design-build, and energy solutions work, then help schedule and prioritize the technical manpower to deliver it. You'll work closely with our Sales Team and Operations Group throughout the sales and delivery cycle.
If you know electrical systems inside and out, can walk a mechanical room or rooftop and see the opportunity, and want to build long-term account relationships rather than chase one-off bids, this role is built for you.
What You'll Do
Business Development & Sales
- Prospect, propose, and sell electrical projects — primarily retrofits, renovations, design-build, and energy solutions
- Call on existing businesses and accounts to generate proposals for electrical upgrades, replacements, and renovations
- Continually search and qualify new customers using all available resources and leads
- Promptly follow up on every lead and referral, and provide feedback to whoever supplied it
- Build rapport with field service personnel and other Cox-Powell staff to keep a steady flow of leads
Account Management
- Identify key accounts and provide the level of service needed to build long-term relationships
- Create and maintain a proposal backlog sufficient to meet sales goals
- Schedule and prioritize electrical technical manpower to support project delivery
Technical & Field Work
- Size conduit, wire, disconnects, and breakers; determine electrical loads; scope lighting upgrades and related components
- Survey building electrical systems, interpret drawings, assess equipment and job-site conditions, and flag potential problems
- Identify opportunities for repair, replacement, modification, or design of existing and new electrical equipment
- Apply working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, wiring, and automatic controls systems to scope and sell work accurately
Pricing
- Apply company pricing policy correctly to hit gross margin dollar and percentage recovery targets
What You Bring
- Virginia Electrical Master's License (required)
- Strong working knowledge of electrical systems: sizing, load calculations, lighting, and related components
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and assess as-built job/equipment conditions
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical, wiring, and automatic controls systems
- Proven sales or account management experience — ideally in commercial/industrial electrical, HVAC, or mechanical services
- Comfort pricing and proposing work to protect margin, not just win volume
- Physical ability to climb ladders, navigate mechanical spaces, and work in tight or awkward locations including rooftops
Benefits & Perks
- Company vehicle, fuel card, purchasing card, and cell phone provided for business use
- Comprehensive medical and dental plans
- 401(k) with company match
- Incentive compensation on top of base salary
