Our Client is seeking experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician to contribute technical expertise to a customer project focused on developing advanced AI benchmarks. In this role, professionals will apply their hands-on mechanical engineering and technician experience to create realistic, high-quality technical workflows, datasets, diagnostic scenarios, and evaluation criteria that help train and assess next-generation AI systems.

No prior AI experience is required. The focus is on applying real-world domain knowledge in test setup, instrumentation, data interpretation, technical documentation, and failure diagnosis.

Contract Duration: 3–6 months, depending on project requirements

Work Schedule: 20 hours per week or up to 40 hours per week for candidates available immediately

Compensation: $30 – $70 per hour, based on experience and project requirements

Key Responsibilities

Design and author authentic technician workflow tasks that reflect real-world mechanical engineering and technician challenges.

Develop scenarios involving test setup, instrumentation, data collection, analysis, troubleshooting, and failure diagnosis.

Source, synthesize, and construct technical datasets based on realistic laboratory or production environments.

Work with technical materials such as test logs, calibration records, sensor outputs, measurements, and failure reports.

Define accurate solution pathways, including interpretation of test data and recommended diagnostic or corrective actions.

Develop rigorous grading rubrics containing 35 or more evaluation criteria to assess technical skills in instrumentation logic, data interpretation, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.

Create evaluation materials that can be consistently used by both AI systems and technical domain experts.

Document technical procedures, observations, test outcomes, diagnostic findings, and failure modes with a high degree of accuracy and clarity.

Ensure tasks and evaluation materials reflect the complexity and realism of professional mechanical engineering technician work.

Develop technical content that goes beyond simplified textbook examples and represents authentic workplace scenarios.

Review deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and alignment with project specifications.

Work independently and meet established project timelines and weekly submission requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in laboratory, testing, manufacturing, production, or related mechanical engineering technology environments.

Associate degree or recognized trade credential in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline preferred.

Strong hands-on experience with instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, and prototype testing workflows.

Demonstrated ability to document test procedures, results, observations, and equipment failure modes in detail.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex test data.

Experience diagnosing equipment, mechanical systems, or process failures.

Ability to create and interpret technical documentation and datasets.

Familiarity with technical file formats, including CSVs, spreadsheets, PDFs, and related documentation.

Strong written communication skills and attention to technical detail.

Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Ability to meet project specifications, quality standards, and weekly deliverable requirements.

No prior artificial intelligence experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with prototype development and testing.

Experience with laboratory or production instrumentation.

Familiarity with sensors, data acquisition systems, calibration procedures, and test equipment.

Experience creating technical troubleshooting or failure-analysis documentation.

Experience developing structured evaluation criteria, technical procedures, or training materials.

Strong ability to translate practical hands-on experience into clear, structured technical workflows.

Experience working on independent or remote technical projects.

$30 – $70 per hour, based on experience and project requirements.

Flexible workload of approximately 20 hours per week or up to 40 hours per week for qualified candidates available immediately.

Compensation is output-based, with experts paid for completed tasks that meet project specifications.

Time required to complete individual tasks may vary based on experience and workflow.

Minimum submission requirements apply, including a minimum number of completed tasks per week.

Remote work arrangement.

Selected experts are expected to begin their first tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after completing onboarding.

The project is designed for professionals who can contribute domain expertise to advanced AI benchmark development.

Start Timeline & Availability

The client typically fills these contractor opportunities within approximately 48 hours and is seeking professionals who are ready to begin promptly. Selected candidates should be prepared to start their first project tasks within 24–48 hours of successfully completing the onboarding process.
