About the job

Who are we?

Longshot Space Technologies is at the cutting edge of low-cost space access and hypersonics. We are developing a novel space launch system that accelerates mass over a long distance. Using our technology, we plan to provide affordable launch services for satellites, cargo, and future space infrastructure. Our mission is to enable a future where humans can reach the stars.

*Position Overview*

We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our core engineering team, owning the design, development, and testing of hardware critical to our kinetic launch technology. You'll work across high-pressure gas systems, thermal protection systems, and structures, applying standard engineering practices to build and refine the hardware that powers our launch and vehicle platforms.

This is a hands-on role for someone ready to work independently on well-defined problems while continuing to grow on both technical and leadership tracks. You'll collaborate closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams spanning mechanical, electrical, fluids, and aerospace engineering, bringing prior hands-on experience to bear across the full system rather than a single narrow slice.

*Job Details*

  • Role Type: FTE EXEMPT

  • Compensation: $135,000-$160,000 Annual Salary

  • Location: Onsite in Alameda, CA

*Key Responsibilities*

  • Design, test, and integrate mechanical systems for the accelerator and vehicle.

  • Design, manufacture, and test key mechanical subsystems, applying standard engineering practices and analysis.

  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot hardware in lab and field environments, investigating failures and recommending design or process changes.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for mechanical designs, test procedures, and results.

  • Evaluate subsystem performance against reliability and design requirements, working alongside senior engineers.

  • Support integration of mechanical systems with electrical, fluids, and software components

*Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering preferred.

  • 3-5 years experience in a hands-on test, design, manufacturing, or R&D setting.

  • Experience with high-pressure gas/fluid systems in excess of 500 psi in large volumes.

  • Exposure to hydrogen safety, rocket test, or propulsion lab environments a bonus.

  • Strong organizational and executional skills, including documentation and planning.

  • Passion for learning, problem solving, and working as part of a fast-moving team.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health and dental insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid sick leave
  • Equity opportunities
  • Professional development opportunities
  • 90-day integration period
