About the job

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern with an interest in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Systems in buildings to join our Life Sciences team in Cincinnati, Ohio. You’ll have the opportunity to use your theoretical knowledge and apply it to solving today’s challenges. This intern position will ideally start in May 2027.

As part of our team, you’ll have the chance to work on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges locally and worldwide by providing a range of engineering services.

You’ll be responsible for providing system design calculations and other related design services including coordination with the designs of other trades (architectural and engineering) under the guidance of Professional Engineers. You’ll use your skills and experience to help deliver and complete challenging and engaging projects. You’ll assist in the design of heating and cooling systems, domestic water and waste systems, and sprinkler systems while also helping develop the plans for the overall building safety.

You’ll also take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned to you by demonstrating the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team.

Here's what you'll need

  • Current enrollment in a degree seeking program of Mechanical, Architectural or Fire Protection Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Desire to design building mechanical systems, including HVAC and piping, for buildings and facilities
  • This role is not eligible to candidates who require sponsorship

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Proficiency in Revit, 3D CADD
  • Prior internship experience with a design firm

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status. Job posted on August 12, 2026. This position will be open for at least 3 days.

We value collaboration and believe that in-person interactions are crucial for both our culture and client delivery. We empower employees with our hybrid working policy, allowing them to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations enabling them to deliver their best work.

Your application experience is important to us, and we’re keen to adapt to make every interaction even better. If you require further support or reasonable adjustments with regards to the recruitment process (for example, you require the application form in a different format), please contact the team via Careers Support.
