CONSTRUCTION ACCOUNTING MANAGER & ANALYST

Job Description

The Director of Accounting Operations oversees the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the company with a primary focus on project accounting, service operations, billing, collections, work-in-progress (WIP), cash flow management, and operational financial reporting. This role partners closely with operational leadership and the parent company finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and operational efficiency across installation and service business lines.

This position serves as the senior financial leader within the operating company and supports strategic decision-making through financial analysis, operational reporting, and process improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations

• Oversee daily accounting operations for installation, service, inspection, and project-related activities
• Support monthly financial close processes and coordinate with the parent company finance team
• Review general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial reporting for accuracy and completeness
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and internal controls
• Assist leadership with financial reporting and operational analysis

Project Accounting & Operational Finance

• Manage and review:
• Work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
• Unbilled receivables
• Change order tracking
• Job cost reporting
• Analyze project and service financial performance to support operational decision-making
• Review underbillings, deferred revenue, and job profitability trends
• Facilitate monthly job close reporting and operational financial reviews
• Partner with project managers and operational leaders to improve financial accountability and project visibility

Billing, Collections & Cash Flow

• Oversee billing and collections processes related to service and project operations
• Monitor accounts receivable aging, delinquent receivables, and collection efforts
• Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management
• Coordinate escalation of collection issues and potential lien filings as necessary
• Assist in improving cash conversion and receivable performance

Leadership & Process Improvement

• Serve as the primary financial liaison between the operating company and parent company finance leadership
• Collaborate closely with Operations Managers, Project Managers, and Executive Leadership
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency and operational reporting
• Support development and mentoring of accounting and administrative staff as applicable

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or operational finance experience
• Construction, mechanical contracting, service, or project-based industry experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of:
• Project accounting
• WIP reporting
• Billing and collections
• Financial reporting
• Cash flow management
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to work cross-functionally with operational leadership

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or CMA preferred but not required
• Experience within multi-entity or parent/subsidiary organizations
• Experience with construction or service management software platforms
