Our North-America Team
Emeren's North America's team consists of approximately 20 people with diverse areas of expertise (development, engineering, legal, finance, sales), located across different parts of the United States. About the position
The Director West Development will lead the origination, development, and advancement of utility-scale battery storage projects in Emeren's Western US pipeline. This role combines strategic origination with hands on project management, requiring strong relationships with landowners, utilities, regulators, and internal cross functional teams (engineering, legal, finance, and asset management). The newcomer will report to the VP, Development & Commercial Execution
Responsibilities
- Lead strategy and implementation of development activities including real estate acquisition, discretionary permit, tax abatement negotiations, and community engagement;
- Assess impacts and risks to the project development path, develop mitigation plans and communicate these impacts to pertinent parties;
- Hire, manage and mentor a team of 2 Project Developers and Analysts to advance development activities across a portfolio of projects;
- Together with Project Developers, track and manage project real estate including land leasing efforts, title reports, ALTA surveys, etc.;
- Negotiate local tax abatements, road use, and decommissioning agreements;
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including landowners, utilities, regulators, consultants, and community representatives;
- Monitor and mitigate project risks across technical, commercial, and regulatory areas;
- Create and maintain detailed project schedules and budgets and closely monitor project-level expenditures and invoice processing;
- Lead land acquisition efforts by developing strategies and managing land agents;
- Manage engineering and construction efforts in coordination with internal and external subject matter experts and construction counterparts;
- Collaborate in the negotiation of local tax abatement, road use, and decommissioning agreements to ensure alignment with modelled project economics;
- Travel up to 50% of the time to support project development activities
Required
- 7+ years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy project development, with significant experience in solar PV and BESS demonstrated progression of project management responsibility;
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or Environmental Studies or related field, graduate degree preferred;
- Experience in leading a team;
- Demonstrated success managing projects across multiple U.S. RTOs/ISOs with specific knowledge of CAISO regulatory structures, including EIM, EDAM and RA.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional project teams and manage external consultants
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills;
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Capacity to comprehend complex documents and effectively communicate project risks and impacts;
- Self-starter with strong intercultural communication, organizational, and negotiation skills;
- Confident presenting material to C-Suite level executives and external stakeholders;
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills;
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office and associated applications including MS Project, Teams, Power BI;
- Ability to learn new software as needed;
- Willingness and ability to travel 50% of the time.
Preferred
- Located in Mountain West, in proximity to airline hubs (Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix or Las Vegas).
- Familiarity with GIS tools, permitting databases, and interconnection modeling.
