Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to provide technical leadership and operational support across enterprise database platforms spanning both legacy and modern technology environments. This role requires deep expertise in IBM DB2 for z/OS, DB2 LUW, and Microsoft SQL Server, with exposure to modern cloud-based data platforms and data modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess strong experience supporting mission-critical, high-volume transactional systems while helping guide the evolution of enterprise data platforms toward cloud-native and analytics-driven architectures, including PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and BigQuery.

Essential Functions

Database Administration & Operations

  • Provide senior-level administration and operational support for IBM DB2 for z/OS, IBM DB2 LUW, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and cloud-based database platforms.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, monitor, and maintain enterprise database environments.
  • Ensure database availability, reliability, security, and performance across supported platforms.
  • Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.

Performance Optimization

  • Analyze and tune database performance across large-scale production environments.
  • Optimize SQL statements and application database interactions.
  • Perform execution plan analysis and access path reviews.
  • Develop and maintain effective indexing strategies.
  • Manage statistics collection, database maintenance activities, capacity planning, and resource optimization.

Database Engineering & Support

  • Design and implement database solutions supporting enterprise applications.
  • Manage and maintain database objects including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, packages, constraints, and security controls.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and conduct root cause analysis.

Collaboration & Modernization

  • Partner with application development, integration, infrastructure, and data engineering teams.
  • Support enterprise modernization efforts involving migration and integration of legacy database platforms into cloud environments.
  • Provide guidance on database architecture, governance, standards, and best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging database technologies and recommend modernization strategies.

Additional Functions

  • Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and cloud operations concepts.
  • API-driven and event-driven data architectures.
  • Collaboration with development teams on database design and application optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of enterprise database administration experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering IBM DB2 for z/OS.
  • IBM DB2 for z/OS architecture and administration.
  • Experience with DB2 utilities including REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, RECOVER, LOAD, and UNLOAD.
  • SQL performance tuning and access path analysis.
  • Working knowledge of z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and COBOL application environments.
  • Extensive experience with DB2 LUW include database configuration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience administering Microsoft SQL Server including installation and configuration, performance tuning, backup and restore, security and access management, production support, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced SQL skills with the ability to analyze complex workloads and optimize performance.
  • Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical transactional systems.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Availability to work a varied, flexible schedule to meet business demands
  • Ability to monitor computer screens for long periods of time
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule as established by the division (4 days on-site, 1 day remote)
