At Shames Construction, our Assistant Project Managers play a vital role in supporting Project Managers from project startup through closeout while helping ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As an Assistant Project Manager, you'll support the successful execution of commercial construction projects while partnering closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, clients, and vendors.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Project Manager with planning, scheduling, and coordinating project activities from startup through closeout.
  • Support subcontractor and vendor coordination while maintaining strong working relationships throughout the project.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, contracts, RFIs, submittals, and other project documentation.
  • Assist with project budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and change order management.
  • Monitor material procurement, delivery schedules, and project timelines to help keep projects on schedule.
  • Maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, daily reports, and project logs.
  • Assist with owner communication, subcontractor correspondence, and internal project coordination.
  • Conduct project site visits to monitor progress, quality, and project documentation.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, final documentation, warranties, and turnover packages.
  • Utilize Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and other construction management software to maintain accurate project records.
  • Represent Shames Construction professionally while delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining our reputation for quality.

WHAT YOU BRING

We're looking for an Assistant Project Manager with commercial construction experience who is ready to grow their career with an established General Contractor.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting commercial construction projects for a General Contractor.
  • Experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or Project Administrator in commercial construction.

Experience supporting one or more of the following:

  1. Retail Construction
  2. Big Box Retail
  3. Grocery
  4. Restaurant
  5. Commercial Remodels
  6. Tenant Improvements
  7. Ground-Up Commercial Construction
  8. Industrial Projects
  • Working knowledge of commercial construction processes, scheduling, contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and other construction management software.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company insurance requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout California as project needs require.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Experience supporting occupied/open-store remodels.
  • Familiarity with AIA contract documents and DocuSign.
  • Experience with construction cost tracking and forecasting.
  • Experience working with nationally recognized retail clients.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 per year DOE
  • Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, FSA, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO), and 7 paid holidays
