About the job

Company Description:

Verus Associates is an automation, engineering, and consulting firm specializing in industrial automation, control systems, electrical engineering, and digital manufacturing for a wide range of industries. Guided by the Latin meaning of “verus” (true, authentic, sincere), the company emphasizes integrity, superior customer service, and flexible solutions to complex business challenges. As a platform-independent systems integrator, Verus Associates focuses on client operational needs rather than specific technologies, helping organizations develop project plans, business cases, and solution architectures. The team works closely with clients as trusted advisors, delivering tailored engineering solutions that support efficiency, reliability, and long-term growth.

Role Description

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Concord, CA. This position is responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for industrial automation and control projects, including power distribution, control panels, and instrumentation. Day-to-day tasks include creating electrical drawings and schematics, performing calculations and equipment sizing, preparing bills of materials, and supporting panel layout and wiring designs. The engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, interfaces with clients to gather requirements and provide technical guidance, and ensures designs comply with industry codes, standards, and safety regulations. The role may also involve supporting commissioning, troubleshooting system issues, and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Electrical Design Engineering
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrical design for industrial automation, including power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) and experience producing detailed drawings, schematics, and panel layouts.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, UL), safety practices, and industrial control hardware.
  • Experience working with PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives, and industrial networks in manufacturing or process environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, perform load and short-circuit calculations, and select appropriate electrical components.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; professional licensure (PE) or progress toward licensure is a plus.
  • Prior experience in systems integration, industrial automation projects, or consulting environments is highly beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in an on-site setting.
