About the job

Location: New York City (Hybrid, 3 days a week in office)

Stackwell is an investment app focused on getting multicultural individuals into the financial markets. We are dedicated to increasing financial wellness and asset ownership among emerging wealth builders, whom we call Stackers. Our platform provides automated portfolio construction to simplify investing, financial wellness education to increase investor confidence, and science-based engagement tools to drive behavioral change and financial goals realization. By addressing cultural, social, and emotional barriers to financial inclusion, Stackwell is helping our communities build wealth and thrive. With the successful completion of its Series A funding round, the company is well-positioned for accelerated growth in 2026 and beyond.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Product & Brand Designer based in New York City to own the design of the Stackwell experience, from the core product to key elements of the brand and visual language that carries it into the world. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the VP of Product and sitting on the Product team, for a designer who brings a genuine point of view on where the design should go and the confidence to drive that conversation. You’re not waiting to be told what to design; you’re shaping it.

The heart of this role is product design: partnering closely with the Product Manager and Engineering team to ship polished, cohesive app experiences for the Gen Z and millennial multicultural wealth builders we serve. From that foundation, you’ll extend a single, consistent visual language outward into our educational content and the brand and campaign work that helps the company grow. You think of Stackwell as one connected experience, and you make every surface of it feel intentional and on-brand.

You’ll also establish and own the systems that make design consistent and scalable. You’ll collaborate day-to-day with Product and Engineering, support the Learning team on educational experiences, and collaborate with the Chief Marketing Officer and Growth team to ensure brand cohesion across everything our Stackers see as the brand evolves.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and Ship the Product
  • Translate product requirements and user research into thoughtful, polished designs for mobile app features across onboarding, investing, education, and engagement flows.
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager on UX flows, interaction patterns, and product experiences that balance learner engagement with ease of use.
  • Conduct design QA before engineering handoff, ensuring what gets built looks and feels right.
  • Come to weekly engineering meetings with design decisions already made, so the team can build confidently rather than problem-solve in real time.
  • Develop flow diagrams and wireframes that translate product logic into something the full team can read and align on.
  • Own the Design System and Visual Direction
  • Create and maintain a component library and design system so that button styles, spacing, and screen consistency are owned, not improvised.
  • Drive the visual direction of the Stackwell app, developing a point of view on where the brand and product experience should evolve and leading that conversation proactively.
  • Help establish the standards and reusable assets that keep every Stackwell surface visually consistent, whether it lives in the product, in an email, or in a partner deck.

Extend the Brand Across Every Surface

While Product design is the primary focus for this role, Stackwell shows up in many places beyond the app, and a connected, on-brand experience matters everywhere. A portion of your time will be spent bringing the same craft you apply to the product to the visual work that helps Stackwell grow and serve partners, collaborating with the CMO, Growth team, and other designers to:

  • Produce high-quality visual assets for educational content, including article headers, playlist illustrations, learning-series graphics, and other in-app educational materials.
  • Design creative assets that carry the product’s visual language into marketing (e.g. social, email, and advertising graphics that feature the product)
  • Create partner-and program-facing assets such as infographics, one-pagers, logos, and onboarding/migration materials (e.g., partner branding and trade communications).
  • Partner across the company to keep brand, marketing, and partnership work cohesive with the product experience, so the whole of Stackwell feels like one brand.
  • Contribute to the Broader Product Conversation
  • Bring competitive awareness to design decisions. You’ve looked at what others in fintech, edtech, and consumer apps are doing and have a perspective on how Stackwell should differentiate.
  • Translate UX research insights into design decisions that improve learner confidence and investor activation.
  • Support the Learning team with visual design for educational experiences and content.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of product or UX design experience, ideally including work on consumer mobile apps.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates range across product/interaction design and systems thinking, with strong visual and brand sensibility across formats.
  • Proficiency in Figma for product design and prototyping; comfort with tools like Canva, Illustrator, and Photoshop for fast-turnaround brand and marketing assets.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, especially Slides.
  • Experience working in or adjacent to D2C digital products, with an informed perspective on what makes them work, and how to analyze performance.
  • Familiarity with design handoff processes and working directly alongside engineers, marketers, and other creatives.
  • Ability to move fluidly between deep product work and quicker brand/creative requests without losing quality on either.
  • Strong communication skills. You can articulate your design decisions clearly, defend them when needed, and show up ready to collaborate.
  • Passion for financial wellness, wealth building, and serving underrepresented communities. We are Stacker obsessed!

About You

  • You connect with multicultural Gen Z and millennial wealth builders and bring genuine passion for financial inclusion and the communities Stackwell is built for.
  • You have a point of view on design. You’re not waiting to be told what the app should look like; you have ideas, and you can back them up.
  • You see the product and the brand as one connected system, and you care about consistency across all of it.
  • You’re energized by early-stage environments where your work has a direct, visible impact.
  • You’re organized and self-directed. You can manage your own design queue, flag blockers early, stay on track, and keep projects moving.
  • You take feedback well and iterate quickly, without losing conviction on what matters.
  • You want to grow into design leadership and are ready to own things end-to-end.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in fintech, edtech, or personal finance products.
  • Familiarity with motion design or micro-interactions.
  • Experience with UX research methods or translating research findings directly into design decisions.
  • Background in brand design or illustration.

Working at Stackwell

You’ll be joining a small but mighty team, working side-by-side with leadership, with direct visibility into how your work shapes the company’s growth.

  • Performance-based bonus compensation and equity.
  • Outstanding benefits (medical, dental, vision, and life).
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Unlimited PTO that we encourage you to take.
  • Ongoing professional growth and team building opportunities.

This role is hybrid, with three days a week required in the NYC office.

Everyone is welcome at Stackwell. We are an equal opportunity employer who values diversity and inclusion and look for applicants who understand, embrace and thrive in a multicultural world. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
