About the job
We're looking for a Senior Python Developer to take full ownership of backend platform — a Django/DRF application (internally called Elsinore) that powers our property and community management business. You'll own the full lifecycle: gathering requirements from stakeholders, building features, and shipping to production. This is a hands-on, high-autonomy role for someone who's comfortable being the person the team trusts end-to-end.
What you'll do
- Gather and translate business requirements from stakeholders into technical specs and working software
- Design, build, and maintain REST APIs using Django REST Framework across multiple domains (property listings, leases/renting, member accounts, payments/finance integration, notifications, and more)
- Own deployments: manage our Docker-based environments, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions/CircleCI), and AWS Elastic Beanstalk releases
- Manage our GitHub repo: branching strategy, pull requests, code review, and release workflow
- Manage database schema and data integrity across PostgreSQL (with PostGIS for geo data)
- Build and maintain async task processing with Celery and Redis
- Maintain integrations with third-party services (Xero accounting, Firebase/FCM push notifications, AWS S3, JWT-based auth)
- Write and maintain tests (pytest), monitor error tracking (Sentry), and keep API docs (Swagger/Redoc) current
- Make architecture decisions, review your own work critically, and keep technical debt in check
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of professional Python development experience, with strong Django expertise
- Proven experience with Django REST Framework building production APIs
- Solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and writing efficient queries/migrations
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments
- Experience managing CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments (AWS experience a strong plus)
- Familiarity with async task queues (Celery, Redis or similar)
- Comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders to scope and prioritize requirements
- Strong ownership mentality — you can run a codebase solo, from planning through deployment
- Good testing discipline (pytest or equivalent) and attention to code quality
Nice to have
- Experience with geographic/spatial data (PostGIS)
- Experience integrating third-party APIs (accounting, payments, push notifications)
- Experience with JWT/OAuth-based authentication systems
- Background in proptech, real estate, or marketplace platforms
