Role Description The Lead Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Sunnyvale, CA. This role oversees the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the property, ensuring all building systems, equipment, and facilities are safe, efficient, and well maintained. Responsibilities include leading and scheduling the engineering team, performing and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, responding to guest and operational service requests, and managing vendors and service contracts. The Lead Engineer monitors building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety), ensures compliance with local codes and brand standards, and maintains accurate logs, records, and reports. This role also supports capital improvement projects, contributes to budget planning, and collaborates closely with property leadership to enhance guest satisfaction and operational performance.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in hotel or commercial facility engineering, including hands-on maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Strong skills in troubleshooting building systems, performing preventive maintenance, and using maintenance management systems or work order software.
- Ability to lead, train, and schedule an engineering team, with experience in assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and supporting a safe, inclusive work environment.
- Knowledge of safety, fire, and life safety regulations, building codes, and best practices for OSHA compliance and risk management.
- Experience coordinating with contractors and vendors, reviewing scopes of work, and overseeing on-site service delivery.
- Solid organizational and communication skills, with the ability to document work clearly and collaborate effectively with operations, front office, and housekeeping teams.
- Comfort with basic computer applications (email, spreadsheets, maintenance systems) and the ability to learn property-specific technology tools.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or licenses in HVAC, electrical, or building operations are highly beneficial.
