About the job
Open Source Engineering Fellow
About ArcellAI
ArcellAI is building the context layer for AI-native healthcare, defense, and other high-stakes technical systems. We develop infrastructure that enables AI agents to operate on complex, multimodal data with provenance, traceability, and reproducibility at their core.
Alongside our product, we are building the ArcellAI School of Management and Technology, an experiment in company-native technical education. Our internship program has shown that engineers learn fastest by contributing to real systems. The Open Source Engineering Fellows program extends that vision to recent graduates and early-career engineers.
About the Fellowship
This is not a traditional internship or full-time engineering role.
The Open Source Engineering Fellow is an unpaid, mentorship-driven fellowship for engineers who want to deepen their experience building modern AI systems through meaningful open-source contributions.
You'll work alongside ArcellAI engineers on technically challenging projects while building a public portfolio that demonstrates real engineering capability.

- Model benchmarking and evaluation
- Developer tools and SDKs
- Open-source web applications and components
- Dataset loaders and data quality tooling
- Documentation and technical writing
- Research prototypes
- Infrastructure for reproducible AI systems
Projects are selected based on your interests, background, and current company priorities.
What You'll Learn

We welcome applicants from diverse technical backgrounds. Demonstrated curiosity and initiative matter more than checking every box.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Bachelor's or Master's student, recent graduate, or early-career engineer
- Experience with Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar languages
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub
- Interest in AI, machine learning, data systems, or developer infrastructure
Bonus:

- Public open-source contributions
- A strong technical portfolio
- References based on your work and contributions
- Opportunities to collaborate on research and technical publications where appropriate
- Consideration for future internships or paid opportunities as the company grows
Compensation
This is an unpaid fellowship focused on education, mentorship, and open-source contribution. Fellows retain a public portfolio of their work and gain experience building production-quality AI systems in collaboration with the ArcellAI engineering team.
Location
Remote
Time Commitment
Flexible, approximately 5-15 hours per week, with fellowship length determined by project scope and mutual availability.
Our Philosophy
The future of engineering education will not be built solely in classrooms. It will be built by engineers working on real systems, solving real problems, and contributing to the open-source infrastructure that powers the next generation of technology.
If that sounds like the environment you're looking for, we'd love to hear from you.
