About the job

What is OmaScan?

OmaScan is a healthtech startup helping seniors and people with accessibility challenges live longer, safer, more independent lives at home. Learn more here.

Getting a home assessed for modifications is slow and manual. Occupational therapists spend hours measuring, documenting, and chasing paperwork after every visit, while clients wait months on waitlists. We're building an AI assistant that comes with the assessor, measures the home itself using the phone's LiDAR, checks it against accessibility codes, and handles the paperwork after. The assessor spends time on the client, not the admin.

We've raised angel funding, run pilots across four provinces, and have a 200+ clinician waitlist. Now we need someone to make it something a clinician actually loves using.

The Role

You'll own the mobile app end to end: how it looks, how it feels, and how it's built. It captures a home visit in one pass: voice, photos, video, LiDAR scans, and AR measurements. Our users are clinicians, and many of them are not comfortable with technology. If the app isn't dead simple, adoption will be significantly hurt. That is why we are looking for someone with a strong product intuition along with technical skills.

This is a design engineer role. You make the design decisions and you ship them. There's no handoff.

You will own:

  • The mobile capture experience: React Native shell, native ARKit/ARCore capture, and every screen in between.
  • The design system: flows in Figma, then built, often in the same week.
  • Usability with real OTs in live pilots. When something confuses them, you fix it.
  • The design and code bar for everyone who joins after you.

You'll sit in on customer calls, travel to pilot sites, and have real say over what we build and how.

Who this is for

You should apply if:

  • You've shipped mobile products people actually use. An app in the App Store or Play Store, ideally one you designed yourself, is the strongest thing you can show us.
  • You notice the difference between a good screen and a great one, and it bothers you when it's wrong.
  • You use AI coding tools daily and have opinions about what they're good and bad at.
  • You'd rather own a product than optimize a feature.
  • You care about building something that genuinely helps people.

Bonus: you've designed for older adults, accessibility, or users who don't love technology.

Our stack

TypeScript, React Native, Swift/ARKit, NestJS, Google Cloud, and heavy use of AI coding agents.

Compensation

  • Salary: $70K-90K CAD.
  • Meaningful founding equity

The honest truth

We have funding and real pilots across Canada, but we're early and there's a lot to build. This is a founding-level role with a lot of freedom and a lot of responsibility. If you want a safe, defined job at a big company, this is not it.

Location: Remote/Hybrid in Toronto or St. John's.

How to apply

Email [email protected] with links to apps you've shipped (App Store, Play Store, or TestFlight) and whatever else best shows what you can build.

Tell us, in 2 to 3 sentences each (without using AI):

  1. The app you've built that you're proudest of, and why
  2. Why this role interests you specifically.

Strong candidates will get a short, paid work trial built around a real slice of the product, followed by a conversation about it.
