About magpylabs
magpylabs helps people keep up with the creators, brands, and products they care about by monitoring social media activity across platforms and turning the noise into clear, timely insights. Instead of scrolling endlessly, our users get the updates that actually matter to them.
We're an early-stage team, which means the person in this role won't be inheriting a mature codebase and a backlog of someone else's tickets. You'll help decide what we build and how it gets built.
> Please note: This is an unpaid, part-time internship aimed at students and early-career engineers who want to build their portfolio, get genuine hands-on reps, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with a startup team.
What you'll do
- Build and ship features end to end: the data behind them, the API in the middle, and the interface people actually use.
- Take a rough idea from a conversation and turn it into something working we can put in front of users.
- Help figure out what's worth building and what isn't. Early-stage engineering is as much scoping as it is coding.
- Fix things when they break, and help make them break less often.
- Ship, watch how people use it, and iterate. We'd rather try things than overthink them.
Our stack: [React / Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL].
What we're looking for
- Currently studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, or something related. Self-taught with projects you can show us works too.
- Comfortable writing code in at least one language, and willing to pick up whatever the problem needs.
- Some exposure to both the frontend and the backend/database side, even if it's only coursework or side projects.
- Bonus: any experience with [React, TypeScript, Node/Python], databases, or working with third-party APIs.
- Asks questions early instead of quietly getting stuck for three days.
- Clear communicator who's happy collaborating in a fast-moving, figure-it-out-as-we-go environment.
What you'll gain
- Hands-on experience building a real early-stage product, not a training exercise.
- Code in production, in front of real users, that you can point at and say you built.
- A genuine voice in technical decisions: what we use, how we build it, what we skip.
- Mentorship and close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
- Portfolio pieces: features you can walk through end to end in an interview.
- A reference and recommendation on successful completion of the internship.
If you like the idea of owning a feature from the database to the button, and want startup experience where your work actually ships, we'd love to hear from you.
