About the Role

We're looking for a mobile engineer with a strong background in building modern mobile and web apps while also integrating AI/ML models into production systems. As our mobile engineer, you'll own a large part of our entire user-facing product ecosystem. This isn't a native-iOS silo: you'll work across a React Native (Expo) app for iOS and Android and a TypeScript web app that PMs use from a desktop browser — both backed by a shared Scala Play API.

You won't just implement pre-made Figma screens. You'll talk to superintendents, project managers, and vendors, understand the brutal constraints of a job site (no signal, gloves on, sun glare, a tablet covered in dust among other things), and own features from ideation to production deployment in the App Store and Google Play.

What You'll Do

• Architect the frontend: scale a real codebase that already powers iOS, Android, and web — React Native + Expo on mobile, TypeScript + Svelte + Tailwind on the web, talking to a Scala/Play backend.
• Build offline-first features: our app survives zero-bars job sites today via on-device SQLite persistence and a mutation outbox that queues writes and reconciles them when the device is back online. You'll extend and harden this so writes never get lost and conflicts resolve cleanly.
• Ship AI experiences: integrate LLMs, vision models, and voice-to-text capture into responsive, trustworthy UIs — with streaming output, optimistic updates, graceful error recovery, and clear disclosure of what the AI can and can't do.
• Handle heavy client-side data: render large blueprints, files, high-res photos, and charts without dropping frames on mid-range devices. Move with velocity: build, test, and ship in days, not months with enough architectural integrity.

Requirements

• Working onsite with the team in Seattle, US.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills in English.

1. Technical Ability (Mobile + Web Hybrid)

• Expert with a cross-platform mobile framework using React Native.
• Strong modern web skills (React/Next, Svelte, or similar), you can own a web app, not just a mobile one.
• Deep understanding of local state and offline databases, including background sync and conflict resolution.
• Comfortable with heavy client-side rendering.
• Fluent across the full deployment surface: App Store / Google Play pipelines (EAS, TestFlight, Play Console) and modern web hosting.

2. Resourcefulness

• A history of shipping: side projects, open-source, or being a critical early engineer at a fast startup.
• Comfortable with ambiguity. When a request is vague, you ask the right questions, find the constraints, and take the shortest path to value.

3. AI Skills

• Hands-on experience with AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or edge inference).
• You understand the UX of AI — streaming that feels instant, optimistic UI, and graceful fallbacks — and how to use models efficiently despite their limits.

Bonus Points

• 5+ years experience in software engineering
• You've built software for construction, logistics, manufacturing, or other heavy/field industries.
• Research experience in AI/ML applications, particularly in agent-based systems or multimodal AI or related fields.
• A deep passion for UI/UX and micro-interactions.
• Familiarity with backend work (ours is Scala/Play + PostgreSQL) so you can reach across the stack.
