Senior Software Engineer

Help build the operating system for construction

Construction is one of the world's largest industries, yet much of it still runs on spreadsheets, PDFs and endless email chains.

At Capmo, we're building the platform that helps thousands of construction professionals deliver projects on time and on budget.

We're looking for a backend-first engineer (roughly 80% backend / 20% frontend) who enjoys designing scalable systems, solving complex engineering challenges, and owning features from idea to production.

While our teams work across the entire stack, your primary focus will be backend architecture, APIs, cloud infrastructure, integrations and system reliability. You'll occasionally contribute to our React frontend when needed, but we're looking for someone whose expertise and passion lie in backend engineering.

What you'll work on

You'll join one of our small, highly autonomous product teams where engineers own features end-to-end from discovery through implementation and production.

Some of the areas we're investing in include expanding our platform with Project Financials, bringing cost management, budgeting, payments and complex third-party integrations into the Capmo ecosystem.

You'll:

• Design and build scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Architect APIs, backend services and distributed systems that power our platform.
• Design reliable integrations with third-party services.
• Own features end-to-end from technical design through production.
• Solve performance, scalability, security and reliability challenges.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver complete product experiences.
• Occasionally contribute to our React frontend when required (roughly 20% of your work).
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews and mentoring.
• Help shape engineering standards and improve developer productivity.

What we're looking for

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend engineering experience building production systems.
• Excellent knowledge of Node.js, TypeScript, AWS and PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing scalable APIs, distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
• Strong system design skills and the ability to break down complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
• A product mindset, you understand customer problems, not just technical ones.
• High ownership and the ability to independently drive projects from concept to production.
• Experience working across the stack, with enough React knowledge to comfortably contribute when needed.
