Job Summary
The Engineering Performance Manager serves as the bridge between Human Resources and the Engineering team, ensuring consistent monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of engineering performance. This role is responsible for conducting structured weekly performance reviews of engineers, with particular focus on equity-based engineering team members, identifying performance gaps early, and providing actionable insights that enable timely HR interventions.
The objective of this role is to improve accountability, maintain high engineering standards, reduce prolonged underperformance, and minimize the need for day-to-day micromanagement by engineering leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Performance Management
• Conduct weekly performance reviews for all engineering team members, with a primary focus on equity engineers.
• Assess engineer performance against agreed KPIs, sprint commitments, project milestones, quality standards, and collaboration metrics.
• Identify high-performing, consistently performing, and underperforming engineers.
• Maintain accurate performance records and historical performance data.
Reporting & Analytics
• Prepare comprehensive weekly engineering performance reports.
• Highlight achievements, risks, blockers, productivity trends, and areas requiring attention.
• Present recommendations for performance improvement or corrective action.
• Track performance trends and provide monthly summary reports to leadership.
HR Collaboration
• Work closely with the HR team to initiate appropriate performance management actions.
• Recommend coaching, performance improvement plans (PIPs), mentoring, training, or disciplinary action where necessary.
• Ensure performance documentation complies with company policies and HR procedures.
• Support HR during performance review cycles and employee development discussions.
Engineering Coordination
• Collaborate with Engineering Managers and Technical Leads to understand project expectations and delivery outcomes.
• Verify that engineering deliverables align with assigned tasks, sprint goals, and quality expectations.
• Monitor adherence to engineering processes, timelines, and team standards.
Continuous Improvement
• Recommend improvements to engineering performance evaluation frameworks.
• Develop and refine performance scorecards and reporting templates.
• Identify recurring performance issues and propose long-term solutions.
• Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Completion of weekly engineering performance reviews.
• Timely submission of performance reports.
• Reduction in unresolved underperformance cases.
• Time taken to identify and escalate performance concerns.
• Improvement in engineering productivity and delivery consistency.
• Accuracy and quality of performance documentation.
• Successful implementation and tracking of Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs).
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience in HR, Engineering Operations, Technical Program Management, Project Management, or Performance Management.
• Experience working with software engineering teams is highly preferred.
Required Skills
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to evaluate technical team performance using objective metrics.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion.
• Conflict resolution and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Linear, ClickUp, Asana, GitHub).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills for reporting and analysis.
💸 Compensation
This is an equity-only position. There is no salary or cash compensation at this stage. Instead, you'll receive meaningful founding equity in Luupli, with the opportunity to help shape both the platform and the culture. When we secure funding, equity contributors will be prioritized for full-time paid positions and leadership roles.
