Job Summary
The Software Developer Apprentice is an entry-level On-The-Job and workforce development position designed for individuals seeking hands-on experience in software development. The apprentice will receive structured training, mentorship, and practical project experience while learning how to build, test, deploy, and maintain software applications using modern development tools and practices.
This role is ideal for candidates who are motivated to learn, comfortable solving problems, and interested in growing into a junior software developer, front-end developer, back-end developer, or full-stack developer role.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in structured software development training and technical mentorship.
- Learn and apply programming fundamentals using languages and tools such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Python, MySQL, GitHub, and Visual Studio Code.
- Assist with building, testing, and improving web applications and software projects.
- Write clean, organized, and well-documented code under supervision.
- Collaborate with instructors, mentors, and team members on coding assignments and project tasks.
- Use GitHub or similar version control tools to manage code and track changes.
- Troubleshoot basic software errors, bugs, and deployment issues.
- Participate in code reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions.
- Develop a professional portfolio of software development projects.
- Follow company policies, cybersecurity best practices, and software development standards.
- Prepare for industry-recognized certifications related to software development and technology.
Required Qualifications
- Strong interest in software development, technology, or IT careers.
- Certifications from an accredited credential organization in Software (COITB preferred)
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software tools.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- AI technologies (OpenAI, Claude..).
- Ability to follow instructions, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to complete training, assignments, projects, and certification preparation.
- Reliable internet access and access to a computer capable of running development tools, if participating remotely.
- Ability to earn a government clearance (Sec, TS, TS/SCI w-Poly)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior exposure to coding, web development, IT support, or technical training.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, databases, or GitHub.
- Military, veteran, transitioning service member, or workforce development program participant.
- CS Degree or other technology degree.
- Interest in completing an apprenticeship, internship, or entry-level employment pathway in technology.
Work Environment
This position may be offered remotely, hybrid, or in person depending on the client, training provider, or apprenticeship sponsor. Apprentices may participate in live instruction, guided labs, coding projects, mentor sessions, and employer-based work experience.
