About BarCoded FitTech

BarCoded FitTech is building a smartwatch-first performance analytics platform for elite strength and conditioning coaches.

Our platform turns raw training data from mobile phones and wearable devices into real-time, actionable insights for coaches, athletes, and teams. We are focused on helping performance coaches better understand athlete output, movement, velocity, training quality, and progress using data captured from smartwatches and mobile devices.

We already have a full stack developer on the team. We are now looking for a second developer with a stronger focus on the mobile and wearable product experience across iPhone, iPad, Android, Apple Watch, and WearOS.

This is an early-stage startup role for someone who wants real ownership, meaningful product impact, and the opportunity to help shape the mobile experience from the ground up.

Important Compensation Note

This role is equity-only initially.

There is no salary, hourly pay, or contract compensation at the outset. Cash compensation is planned once funding milestones are reached.

If you need paid compensation immediately, this will not be the right fit — and that is completely understandable.

The right person will understand the risk/reward profile of an early-stage equity-first startup role and be motivated by product ownership, long-term upside, and the opportunity to help build something meaningful from an early stage.

What You’ll Work On

You will help build, harden, and improve the mobile and wearable experience across:

• iPhone and iPad applications
• Android mobile applications
• Apple Watch / watchOS functionality
• WearOS functionality
• React Native mobile front-end development
• Mobile-to-watch workflows
• Athlete-facing mobile experiences
• Coach-facing mobile workflows
• API integrations with backend services
• Sensor-data display and interaction flows
• Testing, debugging, usability improvements, and release preparation

You may also contribute to:

• App Store and Google Play preparation
• Wearable app workflows
• Mobile UI and UX implementation
• Product hardening for pilot users
• Investor/demo readiness
• Integration with Java/Spring Boot backend APIs
• Performance improvements and production readiness

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is strongest in mobile front-end development but comfortable working across the product stack when needed.

You should have strong hands-on experience with:

• React Native
• JavaScript or TypeScript
• iOS and Android mobile app development
• Mobile UI implementation
• REST API integration
• Git and modern development workflows
• Building and shipping real software products

You do not need to be a deep backend engineer, but you should be comfortable understanding backend APIs, data flows, and working closely with full stack/backend contributors.

Strongly Preferred

Experience with one or more of the following would be highly valuable:

• Expo or React Native deployment workflows
• Native iOS development
• Native Android development
• Swift or SwiftUI
• Kotlin or Java
• Apple Watch / watchOS development
• WearOS development
• App Store and Google Play release workflows
• Testing and debugging on physical mobile and wearable devices

Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following would also be valuable:

• Wearables
• Fitness technology
• Sports technology
• Health/performance apps
• Bluetooth or device integrations
• Accelerometer, gyroscope, or sensor-data workflows
• Real-time data flows
• PostgreSQL or time-series data
• Java and Spring Boot
• Early-stage startup or MVP product experience
• Working with coaches, athletes, or performance teams

• Is based in Canada
• Is legally able to work with a Canadian company
• Is comfortable with an equity-only role initially
• Can commit consistent weekly availability
• Communicates clearly and proactively
• Can work independently with minimal hand-holding
• Is comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration
• Cares about product quality, usability, and mobile user experience
• Takes ownership of outcomes, not just assigned tasks
• Wants to help build and shape an early-stage sports technology product

What This Role Is Not

This is not:

• A traditional salaried job at the outset
• A paid contract role initially
• An internship
• A short-term side project
• A backend-only role
• A casual advisory position

We are looking for someone who wants to contribute consistently and grow with the product and team over time.

Compensation

Initial compensation is equity-only.

Cash compensation is planned after funding milestones are reached.

Equity will be based on contribution level, time commitment, role scope, seniority, and long-term alignment. The exact equity structure will be discussed openly during the process and documented formally before work begins.
