Information Technology Specialist

We are seeking an Information Technology Specialist to support our Canadian Branch

of a global insurance organization. This is a hands-on, technically focused role suited

for someone with strong system, database, and reporting skills who can directly

support business users, implement technical solutions, and partner effectively with

the Head Office (Germany) IT team.

This role is execution-focused and ideal for a technically capable individual who

enjoys problem-solving, working with data and systems, and supporting day-to-day

operations as well as system enhancements and projects.

Your Responsibilities

Data, Data Analysis & Reporting

Write, execute, and optimize SQL queries to extract, validate, and analyze data

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance recurring and ad-hoc reports and dashboards
  • Investigate data discrepancies and support reconciliation and corrections
  • Support testing, data validation, and troubleshooting during system updates and changes
  • Maintain report logic and basic data documentation

Systems Support & Enhancements

  • Support system upgrades, enhancements, and conversions in coordination with HO IT
  • Assist with data migrations and user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide post-implementation support and issue resolution
  • Gather and clarify functional business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Act as a local subject matter expert “SME” for assigned systems and coordinate with vendors and HO IT during enhancements and incidents
  • Assist in maintaining system and process documentation

IT Operations & User Support

  • Provide Tier 1–2 application and desktop support to internal users
  • Troubleshoot issues related to Windows OS, Microsoft 365, printers, and peripherals
  • Support user onboarding and offboarding activities (account access, permissions)
  • Assist with IT asset tracking, standard device configurations, and end-user training documentation
  • Log, track, and update service requests using an IT ticketing system
  • Escalate complex technical or infrastructure-level issues to HO or senior IT resources

Governance & IT Practices

  • Follow established IT, data, and security policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with HO IT teams on compliance-related information requests (no direct ownership of certifications)
  • Assist with audit support activities, security awareness initiatives, and operational risk mitigation
  • Assist with routine access controls, backups, and operational checks
  • Ensure documentation and support procedures are current and accurate
  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, reporting accuracy, and support processes

Your Profile (Skills, Qualifications & Experience)

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2–4 years of experience in an IT support, systems, or database-focused role
  • Strong working knowledge of relational databases and SQL
  • Exposure to Python or scripting for data or automation purposes is an asset
  • Experience supporting system upgrades or data changes is preferred
  • Experience in insurance or financial services is an asset, but not required

Technical Skills

  • Intermediate SQL querying and data analysis
  • Reporting tools such as Excel, Power BI, Crystal Reports, or similar
  • Windows OS and Microsoft 365 support
  • Basic Active Directory concepts (user access, permissions)
  • Experience with ticketing and/or IT service management tools

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  • Collaborative, service-oriented mindset
